Training Evaluation Framework and Tools (TEFT) www go2itech.org/resources Step 1: Identify Anticipated Outcomes Tool: Training Evaluation Framework Template Instructions: After reviewing the Template (pg.2), list your anticipated outcomes, by level and type, in the spaces provided. For detailed instructions, a description of the framework, and an example, see pg. 3 – 4 below. Anticipated Outcomes Individual-level Knowledge/attitude/skill outcomes: Performance outcomes: Patient health outcomes: Organizational Level Systems improvements: Performance outcomes: Patient health outcomes: Health System / Population Level Systems improvements: Performance outcomes: Patient health outcomes (impacts): Step 1: Training Evaluation Framework Template v.3 Training Evaluation Framework and Tools (TEFT) www go2itech.org/resources Step 1: Training Evaluation Framework Template v.3 Training Evaluation Framework and Tools (TEFT) www go2itech.org/resources Instructions: In Step 1, you’ll use the Training Evaluation Framework Template to write in and review the anticipated outcomes of the training intervention you are evaluating. The Template is a “blank” copy of the Framework. There are several ways to use this template. You can use the fillable PDF form on your computer, you can type directly into the Word version, or you can print the form out to complete on paper. The colored arrows on the Framework Template outline four types of You may wish to review the TEFT website for a reminder of how the components of the Framework fit together. The Framework is a variation on a typical logic model. It visually represents a causal chain of outcomes resulting from a health care worker training program. You can also think of this causal chain in terms of some simple IF → THEN statements.* To think through what you want to put in the Framework arrows, here are some questions to ask yourself for each step in the logical flow: outcomes resulting from in-service training: Purple: Changes in the individual knowledge, attitudes, and skills of trainees Orange: Changes in on-the-job performance of trainees Blue: Changes in patient health Yellow: Systems changes IF the training is conducted, THEN what, realistically, should be the result for participants? WHY do you believe the training will lead to the result? WHAT evidence do you have that it will lead to this result? IF that result happens, THEN what next? And why? Based on what evidence? *Adapted from: Hosley C./Wilder Research. What’s Your Theory? [monograph on the Internet]. Minneapolis (MN): Office of Justice Programs; 2005 [cited 2012 Feb 20].
