Specification Clause
Durafloor TC
Heavy duty, polyurethane based, trafficable floor coating system
Parchem offers direct assistance with specifications for individual projects; we can visit the site, design office, or arrange a meeting at our branch
office. It is recommended that Parchem be consulted early in the design process.
Technical assistance is available on Ph: 1800 812 864.

0657 Polyurethane based flooring
1.00 Trafficable floor coating

1.11
Substrate preparation
General
All surfaces shall be prepared and the liquid polyurethane material applied, strictly in accordance with
the floor coating system supplier’s current technical data sheet.
All work shall be carried out by an experienced, specialist contractor, who is well trained in the
application of the specific, documented, floor coating system.
Application of the floor coating system should not be conducted when the air or substrate temperature
falls below 5oC and/or the air temperature or substrate temperature rises above 40oC and 50oC
respectively.
The system is only to be applied to substrates that are free from ice and frost. The temperature must
exceed the “dew point” by more than 3oC during application and hardening (refer to the Application
Guidelines).
All materials used in conjunction with the floor coating system, shall be approved by the floor coating
system supplier.
1.12
Surface preparation
Suitable concrete substrates shall be 28 days old (consult with system supplier for concrete < 28 days),
and should achieve a minimum compressive strength of 25 MPa.
All floor surfaces receiving the new polyurethane coating system shall be clean, dry, sound, and free
from loose material, oil, grease and any contamination to achieve maximum adhesion. All cementitious
laitance is to be removed, to expose sound concrete and provide a clean, dry, dust free, open textured
surface by captive shot blasting, diamond grinding, and/or scarification. The floor surface is then to be
vacuum cleaned to remove all laitance and contamination.
Wall surface preparation is to be undertaken by means of high pressure water blasting (4-6 thousand
psi), or grit blasting.

Specification Clause
The substrate should be dry to less than 95% relative humidity and is to be measured using in-situ
probes in accordance to ASTM F2170-09 – Determining Relative Humidity In Concrete Floor Slabs.
Floors must have an effective damp-proof membrane installed and be free from rising damp and
ground water pressure.
Substrate crack treament
All large substrate static cracks, holes and surface imperfections are to be primed, filled, and dry, prior
to polyurethane floor coating system application, using an approved repair mortar system (such as
Nitomortar 903, and Nitomortar 903 with Nitomortar F4 Fillers).
Any dynamic cracking is to be referred to the floor coating supplier for advice, but generally a 5mm ‘V’
shaped groove is to be created along all crack lines using an angle grinder with a diamond tipped disc.
This recess is to be filled with a suitable polyurethane sealant such as Emer-Seal PU40 and allowed to
cure for minimum 24 hours. Install a 25mm wide bond breaking tape over, centred over the crack, prior
to priming.
INDUSTRIAL FLOORING
1.13
Construction joints, cracks next to expansion joints, termination grooves and all horizontal/vertical and
vertical/vertical junctions are to be sealed by applying centrally a band of the Elastomeric Membrane
not less than 100mm wide and 0.5mm thick. Areas such as gullies, rainwater outlets, penetrations and
areas of reflective cracking, are to be similarly treated.
1.20
1.30
Joints / Joint sealants
All existing floor joints are to be expressed within the new polyurethane resin floor coating system. A
purpose suitable joint sealant is to be employed to address the issues of joint movement, traffic type,
frequency, chemical, and thermal exposure. (Consult the floor coating supplier for the appropriate,
compatible sealant system).
Polyurethane Coating System
Priming
Single coat priming of the substrate is required. For porous substrates, allow to apply two coats. The
primer should be allowed to become tack free before application of the floor coating system. To those
areas exhibiting cracking that have been prepared with bond breaking tape, apply a band of the
elastomeric membrane not less than 100mm wide and 0.5mm thick in 2 coats. Allow to completely
embed 50mm Sontara polyester reinforcement tape into the applied first membrane coat whilst it is still
wet, and apply the second membrane coat over.
1.32
Floor coating system
The designated floor and wall areas shall be surfaced with a heavy duty, liquid applied, polyurethane
based floor coating system. The floor coating system is to provide a version for external areas subject
to heavy duty traffic requiring waterproofing and an inter-deck version for use in areas without a
requirement for a significant waterproofing performance. It may be applied to horizontal, inclined and
vertical surfaces. It shall provide the following properties, when laboratory tested @ 20oC and 50% RH:

Abrasion resistance:
Water Permeability:
