Problem with the Microphone VSX 5000 1. Identify your

Problem with the Microphone
VSX 5000
1. Identify your Software version: Turn on your Polycom VSX 5000 unit, go to System, then System
Information, and take note of the System Software field. If the version showed is not version
8.5.3 or version 8.7 or higher, then you need to update your software. If your microphone is
working fine, but your software version is less than version 8.7, you do not need to update your
software, but it is always convenient to have the latest software version installed.
2. To download the latest VSX 5000 software version, you need to create an account in order to
activate your product and to obtain a Key Code.
3. Go to Polycom.com, Support, and then Product Activation. The first time you have to click on
Register for an Account. Provide your information and email address. Select Product Activation
and Software Downloads boxes when the second screen with the check boxes appears.
4. At this point you need go to open your email because Polycom will send you an email with a link
to set your password. Click on the link and set your password.
5. Go back to Polycom, login into your new account (if necessary) and then click on Product
Activation (it opens a new window, if not, turn off your pop-up blocker temporarily)
6. You have to provide the Serial Number of your Polycom VSX 5000 unit (see under your unit) and
the software version we want to download (in this case type 8.7); the system will generate a Key
Code. Please take note of the code or print out the page.
7. Once you have your Key Code, go to Support, Video, VSX 5000
(http://www.polycom.com/usa/en/support/video/vsx_series/vsx5000.html) and then click on
Download VSX 5000 / 6000s / 7000s 8.7.1 Software (24.8 MB). Save the file in your computer.
8. Very Important: Before running the software update you need to turn on your Polycom VSX
5000, and it must remain turned on during the whole software upgrade process. Also, you need
to know the local static ip assigned to your unit (I am referring to the internal static ip assigned
to open the TCP/UDP ports, if you go to the Polycom VSX 5000 Setup document that I sent
before, it is mentioned at the bottom of the second page as 192.168.1.99. You have to use the
address that you set)
9. Unzip the software downloaded and put the exe in your desktop and run it.
10. Click on begin software update (Release 8.7.17)
11. Provide IP address 192.168.1.100, wait until the program shows your unit info, then click on
Next
12. Choose Typical upgrade, the click on Next
13. Be sure than the Update Software box is checked, then click on Next
14. Click on the Enter Software Key manually, and type the Key Code obtained in 6, then click on
Next
15. Keep checked the boxes to retain system settings, directory entries and sample sites, and click
on Next
16. Click on Next to proceed with the update
17. Wait until all the task are completed and the system reboots
18. When the reboot is finished, then click on QUIT or OK and close the window..
