September News (1) Welcome back! We hope you had a great summer and are glad to see your children return to us full of enthusiasm for the challenges ahead. They are all looking very smart in their new uniforms and black shoes. Please remember to help us in the never-ending battle against nits by keeping long hair tied back. Congratulations to Ms Norton and her family on the birth of a baby boy, Hugo, on 23rd August. The baby has already been into school and both the baby and Ms Norton are very well. We welcome some new staff this term. Miss Suthers will be teaching in Saplings class whilst Ms Norton is on maternity leave. Mrs English will be teaching in Elm class for the first few weeks of term as unfortunately Mrs Maguire (Miss Hargreaves got married over the summer!) has gone into hospital for an operation and needs some time to recuperate. Mr Stephenson will be teaching Beech class (Year 3). Miss Hartley will be teaching Willow class (Year 3). Events at St Leonard’s Church From 8th to 11th September Archbishop John Sentamu is leading a series of events all over Lancashire. On Thursday 8th there’s a major family event called Light at the Crossroads at Bowley Scout Camp, Great Harwood starting at 5.30pm. The Archbishop himself will be leading a Lantern Parade; then there will be a Bonfire and Fireworks, Live Music, Open Air Worship, Workshops and Food stalls. Admission is free. Parking is at Memorial Park, BB6 7PT. For more details and to register online go to www.lightatthecrossroads.co.uk You’ll be given instructions for making a lantern. Then on Friday 9th St Leonard’s Church is organising a Crossroads Ceilidh Night with live music and refreshments at St Leonard’s School at 6.30pm. Tickets are available from Church (772442) Lastly on Sunday 11th September the children, parents and staff of St Leonard’s School are all invited to Church for a Back to School Service at 9.30am. This will be an opportunity to welcome everyone back at the beginning of term and dedicate the year ahead. Some of the children will be taking part in the service and the speaker will be a member of the Archbishop’s Crossroads Team. Children arriving and leaving school By now you should be aware of which entrances your child will use to enter and leave school. Wherever possible please can you park away from the building and walk to school as this makes the roads around the school much safer for all the pupils so they have clear visibility for crossing roads. School car parks are locked during these times to ensure there is no moving traffic whilst children are walking in these areas. Please do not bring dogs onto school grounds as however well-trained your dog they can react very differently when surrounded by large numbers of excited children and our children’s safety must be our priority. Lost Property We have a large amount of lost property which was left at the end of last year. Some of this looks very new and so we would like to return to the owners. This will be on display on Monday from 3.15 - 4 pm in the Breakfast Club room. Please come and claim your child’s clothes as we do not have the space to store them all and will need to throw out any items left. Thank you. Celebration Assembly Celebration Assembly will now be held at the end of the day on a Friday at 2.45pm (rather than 9am). If your child will be in assembly we will inform you by text on the previous Monday to ensure you have time to make arrangements to be able to attend.
