Class: Year 5/6 Unit: Italian: Stage 3 Teachers: Mr Petrie and Maestra Valentina Term: 1 2014 Symbol Systems Connection Focus: understanding that symbols can be personal, cultural and global. We use symbols to communicate in many ways including art, product design, different media and movement. The cultural diversity of Australia provides opportunities for us to explore different symbol systems. Language Structures are taught in context through the Unit of Work Grammar: concrete, abstract nouns and derivatives. Indefinitive pronouns: nessuno, ognuno, qualcuno, niente. Comparatives: superlative relative. Verbs: imperfetto, passato prossimo, future tense Text Types: Narrative, Description Indipendant constructed texts. English: Two hours per week literacy block providing support and extention. Literacy: skills in the main areas of Reading, Speaking and Listening and Writing are reinforced and built upon through modelled, guided and independent activities. Narratives: Students explore the themes and issues that authors deal with through the content of narratives, which includes narratives from other cultures. Students develop a critical perspective to narratives as they question and challenge texts. They also explore narrative writing for dramatic performance. Expositions: Students construct arguments from a wide range of community concerns and issues related to the unit Symbols Systems. Research skills are developed to allow students to speak or write at length in persuasive and convincing ways. Literature: Students are engaged by a variety of texts that link to the unit Symbol Systems. Mathematics: HSIE: Science and Technology: PHDPE: Creative Arts: Sport: Homework Special Request: Language: The text types studied aim to develop vocabulary, structure and content in their writing. The Ants in the Apple spelling program is used to meet the individual needs of each student. Whole Number, Addition & Subtraction, Multiplication & Division, Patterns & Algebra, Length, Mass, Time, Position, Chance and Data. Students describe and analyse cultural diversity in Australia and how this affects personal and national identities. Students investigate physical phenomena such as the monthly phases of the moon, the rising and falling of the tides and how the seasons affect living things. Students identify their strengths and value themselves as individuals and members of groups. They appreciate the way others feel and learn positive ways to respond to others in a variety of situations. Students develop an understanding of the role of performance and visual art in the world, recognising that artists compose works for sacred and secular purposes. Sport uniform to be worn on Wednesdays for Dance Fever. Italian homework is due on Monday. English homework is due on Wednesday. Students are required to bring a USB (to save and move work); a binder (to collect all the photocopies) and an address book (to work on vocabulary).
