Vision:
Quality Health Education is an integral part of
young people’s learning, development and
achievement.
Mission Statement:
NZHEA is a community of professionals that
operates with excellence, connectedness and
leadership to support health education.
Values:
Learning/ako: Members provide and promote opportunities for all educators and learners to
achieve in Health Education.
Whanaungatanga: Members collaborate with each other and other organisations to share and
develop relationships.
Leadership/pono?: Members advocate for, inspire, and empower educators and learners to
support wellbeing.
Strategic Outcomes
1. To improve knowledge and understanding of Health Education:
Key Priorities:
a) Advocate for the place and importance of
Health Education
b) Enhance the teaching and learning of
Health Education in education settings.
Strategic Inititatives:
i)
Develop and maintain Moodle as
aplatform for PLD and collaboration
ii) Publish Hauora Matters quarterly
iii) Provide cluster meetings/PLD/conference
iv) Build online presence/social media
v) Support resource development/review and
critique
vi) Advocate with MOE/MOH/NZQA/PPTA/NZEI
and other educational bodies
2. To enhance connectedness between all stakeholders in Health Education:
Key Priorities:
a) Enhance relationships within NZHEA
membership
b) Work in partnership with PENZ
c) Work with related organisations to understand
effective Health Education

Collaboration with PENZ Board
ii) Ongoing self-review/consultation with
NZHEA members
iii) Increase opportunities for NZHEA members
to collaborate
iv) Develop a framework to outline the scope of
the relationship between NZHEA and
stakeholders.

organisations to promote effective Health
Education
3. To build leadership capacity within Health Education:

a) Use and create opportunities to increase the
status of Health Education
b) NZHEA is the voice in public communications
around Health Education
c) Empower members to be leaders in Health
Education
d) Increase and strengthen membership in
NZHEA
e) Develop the governance and management of
NZHEA

promote Health Education and NZHEA
ii) Development and review of
