EDUCATIONAL GOALS
The master’s program is designed for students with basic knowledge and skills in the
field of education and pedagogical sciences. It aims at:
 widening the understanding of basic concepts and current trends in modern education
and in particular in pre-primary education;
 sharpening the key skills and competencies for adequate pedagogical interactions and
management of the educational process in pre-primary schools;
 providing skills and opportunities for curricular analysis and adaptation of different
educational technologies;
 developing originality and students’ own teaching styles in their interaction with 3-6
year-old children.
The study involves some conceptual and technological aspects of scientific
research. Students acquire skills for the selection and implementation of different methods
and techniques for diagnostics, psycho-prophylactics, social work and prevention.
An important part of the training is the development of specific skills and
competences for problem solving, consulting and prevention work with pre-primary school
children. Students are given instructions how to encourage and develop children’s activities
and communication within a wide scale of contexts and situations.
The program aims at providing opportunities for students’ individual development
and self improvement. It stimulates creativity, critical thinking, originality and initiative.
PROGRAM STRUCTURE
The curriculum and syllabi are developed according to the requirements of the higher
education policies in Bulgaria.
The study lasts 4 (four) semesters. The curriculum provides 120 ECTS CR. The ECTS
credits are divided equally in the four semesters according to the State requirements (article
44а of the Law for change and complement of the Law for higher education – State Journal,
vol. 48/04.06.2004 and Regulation № 21 from 30.09.2004 for application of system for credit
transfer in higher educational institutions – State Journal, vol. 89/12.10.2004).
The program structure provides compulsory, elective and facultative courses.
The compulsory courses offer a profound knowledge and specific competences in both
theoretical and practical areas of the study.
The elective courses widen the general and basic knowledge and help students to
acquire more specific information and professional skills.
The facultative courses enable students to acquire new skills and knowledge of their
interest that are not a part of the curriculum.
Students graduate after they successfully pass their final exam or defend their master
thesis. For that final part of the master’s program they gain 15 ECTS CR (article 10 of
Regulation № 21 from 30.09.2004).

The curriculum design, the program structure, ECTS, the quality of education and the
qualification gained enable students to be competitive on the labour market as pre-primary

Annotation:
The aim of the course is for students to reflect on the basic issues in education from the
perspective of the new educational thinking and the modern educational tendencies; students
improve their theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the subject studied through
independent cognitive activity during the seminars; students become familiar with the
practical application of the general educational theory relevant in their course of study.
Course contents:
The course describes and discusses basic pedagogical issues such as: the scientific status of
pedagogy, pedagogical methods, scientific status of the theory of education, the nature of
education as a pedagogical phenomenon; specifics of the educational system, the specifics of
the educational process, its structure, characteristics, stages and contradictions; main means,
methods and forms of education, research status of didactics, the process of studying; the
principles of education, methods of education, organizational learning systems, forms of
training; the lesson as a basic form of education, ways to improve training , working with both
gifted students, and students who fail.
Teaching technology:
The course accents on the theoretical basis of subject studied. The practical exercises illustrate
the practical and applied aspect of the studied educational problems. Students take midterm
tests and develop academic papers and projects during the semester. Students are involved in
interactive educational activities. On their final examination students have to discuss and
interpret two theoretical problems. The final assessment is based on both midterm test and
final examination.

Annotation:
The subject „Developmental psychology” is studied during the first semester as a
compulsory subject of the Master curriculum of Primary school pedagogy full time. The
workload is 30 school hours lectures, 15 school hours seminars, 105 hours extra-curriculum
activity and 5 credits.
The course Developmental psychology provides a summary of the regularities in age mental
development during the early stages of the life cycle of human beings (0;0 – 21;0).
This course includes the following modules of content: 1) historical and methodological
problems of the developmental psychology; 2) theoretical problems of development; 3)
theoretical problems of age periodization; 4) social and psychological characteristics of the
stages and age periods (0;0 – 21;0); 4) the problem of activity in Developmental psychology
in childhood and adolescence.
The goals of the subject “Developmental psychology” are: the basic theories and terms of
human psychological genesis to be acquired; a clear understanding of the essence and
peculiarities of the experiment as a method of research of the characteristic of the age periods.
The lectures are held by means of the use of contemporary technical equipment as
multimedia, software, models, etc.
The active students’ extra-curriculum activity represents the preparation and presentation of a
scientific research; conducting psychological studies; testing; summarizing of articles and
book chapters; essays on topics related to personal experiences and observations; analysis of
cases.
The assessment of the students’ results is done accordingly to the ECTS. The rating on each
subject is formed at the end of the course on the basis of the rating of a written essay on a
topic discussed during the lectures and on the basis of the rating of the student’s extracurriculum activity.
Final grade calculation is done by using a 6-point rating scale: the rating 6 equals level A on
ECTS; the rating 5 equals level B on ECTS; the rating 4 equals level C on ECTS; the rating 3
equals level D on ECTS; the rating 2 equals level E on ECTS.

Annotation: The history of pedagogy is relatively independent pedagogilcal science with
basic features studying and evaluating on pedagogical facts of past social and educational
reality of Bulgaria, revealing and analysis of the genesis and development of upbringing,
education and training in the different eras of Bulgarian society, explaining and comparing
national pedagogical theories and ideas in the process of their origin, development and
implementation in the educational practice.
Course content: Educational content is organized into three modules: Origin and
development of ideas and views on upbringing, education and training (up to XVI century);
Approving pedagogical science and the educational practices in Europe and Bulgaria (XVI
century – at the end of the XIX century); Reforming the pedagogical theories and the
educational practice in Europe and Bulgaria (end of the XIX century and the first half of XX
century).
Teaching: Educational and scientific work with: archival materials, periodicals, memoirs,
works of classics teachers, models of pedagogical theories, schemes of structures of
educational systems, teaching materials and didactic materials, etc.

Annotation: The course "Pedagogical diagnostics" builds knowledge obtained in the course
Theory of Education, Didactics and methodology of teaching of undergraduate research
programs. During the training course, students acquire knowledge of principles, methods and
techniques for the study of personality development in the pedagogical process. The
competencies enable them to construct a diagnostic process of the problem to implementation
of diagnostic testing and interpretation of results. Students can carry out diagnostics of the
social situation of development of the individual characteristics of the person, the person and
work of the educator (teacher and mentor).
The course has a clear theoretical and applied orientation.
Content of the course: Nature and characteristics of pedagogical diagnostics Diagnostics
educational process of teaching Diagnostics, Diagnostics school readiness Diagnosis of gifted
students and students with SEN Survey of the social situation of development, diagnostics and
self-oriented personality, socio-pedagogical features dezadaptiranite of children Diagnosis of

Teaching: Basic methods of teaching are lectures combined with practical exercises. Used
and presentation of Power Point. At the end of each session is held for a short talk on the topic
and a summary of the reinforcement material. Continuous assessment of learning outcomes is
through: a minimum of three (3) tests on the three parts of the course. The final exam review
is a test for solving the integral nature practical problem.

Annotation: Ability to solve current problems of the organization of children's activities in
the nursery with the needs and level of development of children 3 to 7 years is the study of the
course "Programs for educational work in the kindergarten " Through it reveals the
philosophy of the regulations (State educational requirements and laws) regulating the
activity, the rights and obligations of the child teacher requirements structuring of program
content and specific distribution of child day kindergarten. Learning Course aims to create
conditions for the acquisition of organizational and managerial skills of students, future
children teacher who facilitates his personal emancipation and harmonious development,
integration and freedom of teaching activities in synergy with 3-7 year old in context of
SERs..
Content of the course: In terms of the content Course offers introduction to: Reasons and
necessity of the introduction to the program documentation regulating children's activities in
the kindergarten and child development from 3 to 7 years. Diversity and benchmarking
programs for educational work in Bulgaria and abroad. Basic principles and characteristics of
the pre-school stage of education - role in preparing and implementing educational programs

Program "Step by step to kindergarten." Alternative and original concepts and programs for
educational work in kindergarten
Recommended reading: The training process includes lectures at the base of which is made
retrospective of programs for educational work in the nursery, and the presentation of a

include: humanistic approach to selection and interpretation of content; interactive methods,
problematic situations, analysis of positive practices. Students carry out independent research

Annotation: the early childhood is an important period of the individuals’ development and
influence the rest of their life because the fundamental abilities such as self-confidence and
trust, persistence and mindedness, cognitive activity, curiosity and others are formed in this
period. These abilities are not a result of the physical development of the individual, they are
a result of meaningful communication and mutual activities with the adults. This fact brings
the specifics of pedagogy of the early childhood which significantly defer from the
educational process with the older children. Its wrong implementation can cause many
problems to the future development of the child such as lack of attention and cognitive
activity, shyness or aggression and hyperactivity. The correction and compensation of such
deformations later on are much more difficult and time consuming than in early childhood
and pre-school years.
Course content: the course discusses topics related to the importance of the early childhood
for the individual development, scientific background of the pedagogy of the early childhood
– history of its development, research subject, aims and research methods, Age specifics of
the children, factors determining the children’s development, the 3 year-olds crisis, aims and
tasks, principles and methods of the early childhood education, organization of the everyday
activities, the adaptation period at this age, psycho-diagnostics, interaction with the subjects
and the environment, development of speech, play etc.
Evaluation and assessment: At the end of the course a final exam is given to students. The
students’ achievement is also examined through a combination of tests and submitted written
and project work during the semester. Important parts of the evaluation are students’
individual research and presentation skills. Students who can’t meet the course requirements
within the semester are given extra tasks.
3. PREVENTION AND CORRECTION OF AGGRESSIVE BEHAVIOR IN

Annotation: The curriculum provides an introduction to the theme of the destructive and
aggressive behavior of children and learning specific strategies for the prevention and
correction by adequate educational and psychotherapeutic methods.
Purpose and objectives of the course: The main goal is to orient students to the factors and
determinants of aggressive behavior in their nature and specific to age. An important task is to
master the techniques for diagnosing and modifying aggressive disposition and behaviors.
Expected Results: Controlling strategies for the analysis and evaluation of the factors for
aggressive behavior and techniques for the prevention and correction of aggressive behavior
in children.
Methods of teaching: Teaching includes lectures and practical forms (training, case studies,
situational games). The course provides acquiring knowledge and skills for positive
interaction, communication and psychological consultative interaction in the educational
process.

At the end of the training a complex assessment is formed based on:
1. Activity and acquired communication and counseling skills in the process of coaching
meetings.
2. Demonstration of acquired methodical and technological expertise during the semester.
3. Analysis of the results of tasks (documents) that are placed at the beginning of the course.

analysis as well as theoretical knowledge of contemporary Bulgarian pronouncing speech and
culture.

Аnnotation: The course incorporates analysis contemporary interpretation of the basics of
preschool education. It is seen as an independent science that uses various methodological,
theoretical and interdisciplinary approaches to enrich the content. Analyze the way for the
socialization of children's personality in terms of educational technology training process.
Traces the formation of pedagogical understanding of the role of the teaching process in the
child's development as a person and subject to various kinds of activities and relationships
(play, learn, work). The structure of the course focuses on the practical character of preschool
education and formation of professional and general pedagogical and technological abilities of
the student.
Content of the course: Purpose and objectives of education in pre-school - acceleration and
amplification. Conceptual apparatus of preschool education in terms of different conceptual
and theoretical approaches (axiological, person-centered, activity-conceptually, structuralfunctional, psychological).
Regularity of the teaching process in kindergarten and technological devices for maintaining
and operating it. Psychological foundations of pre-school education as the basis for the
organization of the teaching process. Pedagogical conditions for the socialization of children's
personality. The content of education and integrative processes in the teaching process: theory
and practice. Play and toy in a child's life - psychological, sociological and pedagogical
approaches. Organization of the life and work of children in kindergarten (educational
technology organization of daily schedules).
Teaching and assessment: Education includes specially developed by prof E.Yanakieva
educational and methodical complex, which requires students to develop skills to apply
different methodological approaches to develop critical thinking and pedagogical imagination.
Lectures presented in heuristic plan based on extensive evidence and illustration, different
viewpoints according to the specific problem. Seminars and workshops are held on preassigned tasks and suggest a discussion with the participation of all student groups. The
workshops were built on visiting kindergarten and skills required for monitoring and
conducting pedagogical analysis of specific teaching situations.

"ETTNL" is one of the professionally - educational program for training specialists in the
field of preschool education. This is explained by the social significance of speech, its role in
the system of higher mental functions in the formation and development of the child's
personality.
The aims and objectives of teaching at the course are:
• students to gain knowledge about the process of developing speech and speech
communication in children;
• to form an understanding of didactic and psycho-physiological bases of learning the mother
tongue;
• to acquire skills to see and understand the age and individual peculiarities of speech
development in different age stages;
• utilization of generalized ideas about building a pedagogical process in mother-tongue, but
also knowledge about specific methods for speech development of children and the ability to
apply them in changing conditions;
• developing skills to critically analyze and evaluate the experience of others and stimulate the
creation of innovative techniques of their impact on speech development in children.

Аnnotation:
In the syllabus are the main discussion of theories on the origins of learning basic
mathematical concepts children - number one, counting, shapes, shape, space, time and the
guidance systems related to their utilization.
PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE main objective is to make students teachers summarized methods for independent review of the scientific literature on issues
related to the various theories on the origins of mastering the basic mathematical concepts of
children - number, unit count, shape, figure, space, time and the guidance systems related to
their learning and acquire skills for creativity and innovation to apply the acquired knowledge
in specific teaching situations.

for acquiring the pedagogical minimum amount of knowledge for identifying and working
with children with special educational needs. The basic aspects, of the development of the
children with SEN, are outlined. The purpose of the discipline is to set the general issues of
Special pedagogy and to reveal its place in the system of pedagogical sciences.
Course content: The main substantive highlights are: basic knowledge of the nature and
objectives of special pedagogy; the main types of disabilities; the terminology; the main
characteristics of persons with abnormalities in psychophysical and social development; the
main correctional rehabilitation forms of interaction with them; the existing system working
with CSEN and fundamental pedagogical paradigms in this area; the conditions for the
integration of persons with disabilities in social processes; the approaches to normalize the

Annotation: This course provides students the opportunity to enrich their knowledge about
processes, problems and phenomena from different fields and to reveal the relationship
between them - sociology, pedagogy, law. A training course on the discipline "Legal
education in preparatory group" enriches the students legal culture, increase their competence
in the field of law and introduces them to the problems of legal education of preschool
children, in particular 6-7 year old child. Students learn the basic concepts and regulations
governing the issue of children's rights and acquire practical skills to familiarize children with
this matter by available methods, tools and techniques.
Content of the course: With students discuss the following topics: role and importance of
legal education for the socialization of children in civil society, principles, methods and tools
for legal education in the preparatory group/class, international and national legal documents
as a basis for determining the minimum legal knowledge, skills, attitudes and habits, available
for the 6-7 year old child, relationship between education process - legal education and legal
education - legal Education - civic Education, legal education as a source of social control and
incentive for active citizenship.

associated with the active participation of students in the discussion of problems from the
course and interaction between teacher and students through: participation in solving cases,

Annotation: the course aims at introducing students to some psychological and pedagogical
aspects of the transition from pre-primary to primary school and the successive development
of educational goals, tasks, contents, teaching methods, forms and tools that are supposed to
provide successful children’s education. Some empirical information based on experimental
research are included as well and discussed together with some techniques for assessment of
children’s knowledge and skills between the two stages.
Content of the course: the course deals with some classical and new pedagogical and
psychological theories explaining the children’s psychological development and readiness for
school. The continuity in the curricula design is also an important part of the discussion
including educational goals, contents, teaching methods and strategies, teaching tools etc.

Аnnotation: The organization of the process of preparing the children for school, diagnosis
and correction of their psychological readiness to participate in the educational process is one
of the priorities of the educational work in kindergarten. In this elective course of lectures to
demonstrate the algorithm for compiling educational characteristics of children who are about
to enroll in school. The tasks of the course are: a. Students learn to choose diagnostics and
correction processes of preparing children for school, b. understand the determinant factors
that could lead to low school performance. Century to form the concept of building a
complete system for personal preparing children for school.
Content of the course: The first module reveals the contents of the key concepts covering the
preparation of children for school - school readiness (general readiness to learn at school,
emotional and volitional readiness, social and moral readiness, intellectual readiness,
motivational readiness, physical readiness), preparation for school, school maturity continuity
between kindergarten and elementary school adjustment to school life. The second module
reveals the characteristics of teacher interaction with children who are not ready for schooling
- typification unpreparedness and strategies to overcome problems in personal development:
a). cognitive abilities, as a condition for the successful transition from kindergarten to school
education, b). context of the game as a pedagogical interaction and preparing children for
school, c). pedagogical foundations for the construction of the educational interaction
unprepared for school children.
Teaching and assessment: Workshops are built on the basis of the optimum combination of
the following methods: demonstration, modeling elements of socio-psychological training,
elements of suggestopedic method.

used in the preparatory group.
Content of the course
The main objective of the course is to introduce the features of interactive methods that can be
used in the preparatory group. Controlled at the level of theoretical material within seminars
will work in practice.

The course ends with an exam.
The evaluation of the results achieved in the process of learning is consistent with the
requirements of Ordinance № 21 of the Ministry of the September 30, 2004 to implement the
system of accumulation and transfer of credits.

Exam
