Using the Network Setup Wizard to Identify Your Computer Running the Windows XP Network Setup Wizard is not required for a wired home network, but it provides a method to identify your computer on the network. This will make it much easier when you begin sharing folders and files over your home network. 1. Click Start in the left task bar. 2. Click All Programs. 3. Click Accessories. 4. Click Communications. 5. Select Network Setup Wizard. 6. Select Next when the Welcome to the Network Setup Wizard displays. 7. Review the preparation steps and select Next. Please disregard the note to install the network adapters and turn on all peripherals. You will install the network adapters later. Select This computer connects directly to the Internet. I do not have a network yet as the specific Internet connection method and click Next. Choose a description that differentiates it from the other computers on your home network (For example, office desktop). 11. Enter a name for this computer in the Computer name field. The name cannot contain any spaces or special characters. Note: Give the computer a descriptive name like "office_desktop" or "Michelles_laptop" to make it easier to identify in My Network Places. 12. Enter a name for your home network in the Workgroup name field. You will assign this same workgroup name to all the other computers on your network, so you may want to write it down.
