World Disaster Biome Initiative
A biome is a unique ecosystem, a living community characterized by distinctive plant and animal species and
maintained under the unique climatic conditions of the region.

Background Information
The year is 2036 and you live in/near one of the assigned biomes. Let’s just say that things have changed for the
worse in the past 20 years. After years of a world population boom, the population has dramatically decreased
and natural resources have been severely depleted. The People’s Relocation to One Biome for the Sake of Saving
the Human Race from Total Annihilation Committee (PROBSSHRTAC for short) has convened in Paris, France to
listen to speakers from all 8 biomes. This committee will decide which biome the remaining 200,000 humans
should live in/near. The goal is to pick the best biome to live in- that will provide good natural resources, and a
climate we can easily adapt to without much help from electricity or damage to our already ravaged planet.
Your Task
You do not want to move from your biome. You need to convince the PROBSSHRTAC that your biome is the one
worth living in. They are concerned about the depletion of our natural resources and saving the remainder of the
human race. They don’t want to have everyone relocate to just one biome, but in order for our species to
continue, the PROBSSHRTAC must make the tough decision; they must do what their team suggests…they must
soar above this situation and make our home in the best available place possible! They must choose which biome
we are to live on/near. They don’t want you to badmouth the other 7 biomes, but instead they want you to
present the facts of your biome in an easy to understand Research Packet, visual diorama, and an explanation of
your diorama.

Biome Diorama Requirements
 Accurately depict your biome
o Include 5 types of plants found in the biome (5 pts.)
o Include 5 animals found in the biome (5 pts.)
o Include 3 landforms found in biome (3 pts.)
o Include evidence of the type of weather your biome experiences in the summer
and winter (2 pts.)
 Include a easy to read key with your diorama that is attached to the back listing the
plants, animals, and landforms, and climate info included in your diorama. (5 pts.)
 Construction
o Fully cover/utilize at least 4 sides of your diorama (2.5 pts.)
 Do not leave a side unfinished. If it is not being used it must be removed
o Construction is neat and polished (2.5 pts.)
o Include a sign that gives the name of the biome somewhere on the exterior of the
diorama (1 pt.)
