Content Objective: I can determine if a linear equations has one solution, no solution or infinitely many
solutions.
Lang. Objective: I can define one/two step equations, inverse operations, linear equations, reciprocal,
variables, infinitely many solutions.
Key Vocabulary
No solution - a mathematical statement that is always false
infinitely many solutions - an equation that is still true regardless of the value of x
Find the solution to the linear equation.
1) 2x = 2x
2) 2x + 2x + 2 = 4x + 2.
-2x -2x
0=0
4x + 2 = 4x + 2
Infinitely many solutions
-2
-2
4x = 4x
3)
x=x+1
-x -x
Infinitely many solutions
4) 2x + 3 = 2x + 7
0=1
Infinitely many solutions
5) 3(x + 4) = 3x + 11
So there is no solution
6)
no solution
no solution
(Solve your equation to show how many solutions it has.)
7. One solution
Answers may vary but you should be able to solve your equation and get a number answer.
8. No Solutions
9. Infinitely Many solutions Answers may vary, but when you solve it you should get a true statement like 6=6.
You can stop if you get to the point where you see the same thing on both sides.
2x – 1 = 2x - 1
