PURSUANT to section 87(2) of the Biosecurity Act 1993, His Ex­
cellency the Administrator of the Government, acting by and with
the advice and consent of the Executive Council, makes the follow­
ing order.

Title and commencement
This order may be cited as the Biosecurity (Southland Re­
gional Pest Plants Management Strategy) Crown Obligations
Order 1998.
This order comes into force on 10 July 1998.
Interpretation
In this order, unless the context otherwise requires,—

Financial year has the same meaning as in section 2(1) of the
Public Finance Act 1989
General administrative functions means setting standards,
inspection, enforcement, monitoring, surveillance, provision
of advice or information, education, direct control (including
biological control) of pests, research into biological control,
administration, or management
Southland Regional Pest Plants Management Strategy
means the pest management strategy approved by the South­
land Regional Council on 21 August 1996.

Pest control on land administered by Department of
Conservation
The Southland Regional Pest Plants Management Strategy ap­
plies to the Crown to the extent that the Crown must,—
(a) So far as is practicable, carry out work in accord­
ance with that strategy, to the value of $149,200 each
financial year, on land owned by the Crown and ad­
ministered by the Department of Conservation under
the Conservation Act 1987 or under any Act listed in
Schedule 1 of the Conservation Act 1987:
(b) Pay the amount of $7,000 each financial year to the
Southland Regional Council for general administrative
functions specified in that strategy.
The obligations in subclause (1)(a) are subject to the limita­
tions in regulation 4.

Additional limitations on work
The Crown’s obligation to carry out work applies only to the
pests or groups of pests specified in the Schedule and the obli­
gation does not exceed the amount specified for that pest or
group of pests.

Application of order
This order applies to the financial years commencing on 1 July
1998, 1 July 1999, and 1 July 2000.

Explanatory note
This note is not part of the order, but is intended to indicate its general
effect.
This order, which comes into force on 10 July 1998, sets out the
Crown’s obligations in respect of the Southland Regional Pest Plants
Management Strategy.
