December 2016
Christmas Arrangements
The countdown to Christmas is upon us so here are some arrangements for the coming weeks:
POST BOX
From 2nd December onwards, children will be able to post their Christmas cards
in our school post box in the school hall. Please ensure that all cards include full
names (including surnames wherever possible) and class numbers on the
envelopes. Sorry – we are unable to give out class lists of children’s names due
to data protection regulations.
TREE DECORATING
Our school Christmas tree assembly will take place on Friday 2nd December at
9.00am. This year parents and grandparents of children in Class 6 are welcome
to join us for a festive sing-a-long.
CHRISTMAS FAYRE
The FOBBS Christmas fayre will take place on Friday 2nd December from
3.15pm. This will include our traditional Secret Santa shop, seasonal
refreshments and a selection of stalls. We look forward to seeing you on
Friday!
CHRISTINGLE
The Christingle services will take place on Monday 12th December in school and
will be led by Rev James Woolford (from Lower Wyke Moravian Church). The
service for children in Reception, Class 1, Class 5 and Class 6 will take place at
9.15am (we buddy the oldest and youngest children up) and the service for
Classes 2, 3 and 4 will take place at 10.15am. All children will need to bring
an orange (not a satsuma!) to school by Thursday 8th December, ready to
make their Christingles.
TICKETS
Tickets for the Reception / KS 1 and KS 2 Christmas performances went on sale
last week. The tickets for Tuesday afternoon (KS 1) and Thursday evening (KS 2)
have now sold out. A limited number of tickets are still available for Wednesday
morning (KS 1) and Friday morning (KS 2).
Swimming Lessons
Children in Class 5 will finish swimming lessons when we break up for the Christmas holiday. Children from
Class 4 will start swimming in January. Swimming takes place each Wednesday afternoon so the first
swimming lesson of the new year will be on Wednesday 4th January 2017.
Weather Update! - Contingency Planning for adverse weather
Thankfully we haven’t experienced any serious snow (as yet) although it has been cold enough at times! Just
to be on the safe side, I want to remind you of school procedures should the need arise. Making a decision to
close the school is never taken lightly but you need to be aware that, for health & safety reasons, school
cannot open if members of the leadership team (Miss Proctor, Mrs Bennett, Mr Roberts) cannot travel into
school safely. Closing the school is always a last resort but, if this decision is made, we will inform you by text
message as early as possible. Every effort will be made to send this message to you as early as possible and
certainly before 8.00am on the morning of closure. It is therefore essential that we have your current mobile
phone number and that you keep your phone switched on and fully charged. I would also advise that you listen
to Radio Leeds or visit the Calderdale Council website (www.calderdale.gov.uk) which will also provide closure
information. If you haven’t heard from us, school is open! Please don’t ring school to check, as staff may be
travelling in themselves or be busy making the site safe to receive children.
Also, please be aware that, in the event of snow, it may not be possible to transport meals into school. Rather
than shut because we can’t provide meals, in this instance, I would make the decision to send a text out to
inform you that school is open but to send your child with a packed lunch for that day. Don’t be surprised if you
get this message. Please be assured that every step will be taken to minimise any disruption if at all possible.
Thank you!
Please see our Adverse Weather policy on the school website for more information.
