Games Game to 11 (get them used to playin to 11 for league matches) Cut Throat Seven (another form of Cut Throat) Two against One If you have an advanced player against a weaker player – every time the advanced player skips the ball it’s a sideout AND the weaker player gets a point. (no matter who served) Pick a serve that the players are weak at and that is the ONLY serve they can do during their game. If they mess up, side out. Go for perfection. Select a certain shot(s) that the players can ONLY do. For example only down the line or cross courts. No pinch shots, etc. If they do, it’s a side out or point depending who servers. Go for perfection. Push-Ups – every time the players skip they must do push-ups. Behind the dotted line 5 push-ups, between short line and dotted line 10 push-ups, between service box 15 push-ups, and above front service line 20 push-ups. 3 Shot Rally – serve, return, and an attempted put away shot 4 Shot Rally – serve, return, attempted put away shot, attempted put away shot Smallball Strength Training Sit-up’s Full body 1. Line Drills (with or without racquet) o Sprint to each court line and to the back wall o Shuffle (forehand & backhand) to each court line and to the back wall Star Drill o The Star drill begins in center court. The player starts by shuffling forward to the front forehand position (just past the front serving line) facing the side wall. Once the player reaches the front position, a swing is taken, then the player shuffles back to center court. The same steps are repeated to the front backhand, rear forehand, and rear backhand, making sure that the player faces the side wall when shuffling and a swing is taken at the apex of the stage. The last two movements are lunges taken to each side of the court. The player should be able to reach the side wall with the racquet in as few steps as possible. Most players will have to take a half step with the leading leg, then cross the opposite leg over, and finish with a swing. If no half step is needed, then the non-leading leg should cross over, and then swing. The star drill should be performed with a racquet in one-minute intervals. Other variations can be made, such as using a light hand weight instead of a racquet, using ankle weights, or using a band stretching between your ankles. Machine Gun Drill o In the ready position move your feet up and down as fast as you can. Stay low. o Once you have the first step, put forward and backward movement into play. Again staying low and in the ready position Ice Skating Drill o Standing parallel to the side wall on the front service line…stay low and in the ready position pushing back and forth between the short line and the front service line. Do not let your lagging foot touch the ground.
