Cast Sugar Eggs with SugarVeil

Cast Sugar Eggs with
SugarVeil
Make porcelain-like, edible sugar eggshells with
SugarVeil Icing and C&H Baker's Sugar. Then dip,
comb, paint, marbleize, or use a Confectioners' Mat
to decorate. The eggs will last for many years!
1. Mix SugarVeil as directed. To make the sugar shells, mix
1/3 c. of the SugarVeil mixture (reserving the remainder for
decorating the sugar eggs) with 4 c. of granulated sugar.
For the smoothest result, use an ultrafine sugar (we used
C&H Sugar Baker's Ultrafine granulated) and beat for 2
minutes in the Kitchen Aid mixer to combine.
Sugar mixture will be crumbly like sand but will gently
hold together when squeezed.
2. Pressing firmly, pack the sugar mixture into a plastic
half egg shape.

3. Scrape away excess to leve. Here we are using the
SugarVeil Multi-Use Fin Tool.
4. Tap firmly onto a rigid surface to unmold. Repack mold
and continue making desired number of egg halves. Save
the sugar mixture in a zipped bag for later use.
5. When sugar is set enough to handle (30 minutes to a
few hours), place plastic shell again onto sugar half for
support, and use a spoon to hollow out the egg shell
halves. This scooped out mixture may be used for making
make more eggs as well. Store mixture in a zipped bag,
and add a few drops of water if necessary, when ready to
use.
6. Colored SugarVeil Icing can also be added to the
granular sugar mixture to make colored eggs. When sugar
shells are completely dry after a few hours, use the
SugarVeil AirPen Piping Dispenser or a parchment cone
to pipe a fine line atop the flat edge of the egg shape to
join two halves together.

7. For a satin coating of SugarVeil on the eggs,
add a bit of water to SugarVeil Icing for a
painting consistency and pour onto parchment.
8. Roll egg onto SugarVeil to coat and...
...place upright onto a candle holder to drain. Use
a soft brush to remove excess SugarVeil from
base of egg. Allow to dry.
Tip: For a snowy texture, paint egg with
SugarVeil then roll onto colored sanding
sugar.

Tip: Fill eggs with paper Chinese-like
fortunes or treasure hunt clues; or fill with
candies for gender-reveal baby shower
parties! Provide guests with dowels or
spoons to whack the eggs to release the
contents.
