Preparation and presentation of seminar papers, active participation in
classes, two term-exams and a final written exam. Those students who
pass both the mid-term and the end-of-term exam, will be exempt from
the final exam. However, those students who do not pass one of the
term-exams must sit the final exam at the end of semester.

Having completed the course, the students will have gained the basic
knowledge of second language acquisition and will be able to:
-understand core content and objectives of the research process in
second language acquisition,
-get an insight into the development of second language acquisition
theories and understand their impacts,
-understand the relationship between learner-internal and learnerexternal factors that affect second language acquisition,
-explain characteristics of cognitive and affective factors in the process
of second language acquisition,
-recognise the characteristics of learner language,
-develop and carry out a small-scale research in the field of second
language acquisition.
Enrolment in the first semester of Graduate study in the English
Department (Teacher Education)
The basic goal of the course is to familiarise students with the content
and the foci of second language acquisition research processes,
including second language acquisition theories, and the influence of
other disciplines on theories of second language acquisition. To that
end, students will be familiarise themselves with the basic factors that
influence the process of second language acquisition (learner-internal
and learner-external), including individual differences in the process of
second language acquisition, and the characteristics of learner
language. Furthermore, the students will get acquainted with current
approaches to second language acquisition research, and the
relationship between acquisition, learning and language teaching.

Lectures are delivered in English language. The course involves a high
degree of student activity with continuous participation during classes
in the following ways: a) by reading previously assigned articles and
participation in discussions, b) preparation of seminar papers and
presentations based on the required and additional readings, c)
interaction during lectures and seminars, and d) group work at
seminars.
Classes include regular consultations and consultations as needed.
