APRIL 2016 Issue 10 Facilitator Focus ADDRESSING THE NEEDS OF WRAP® FACILITATORS ACROSS THE STATE OF MARYLAND SHOWERING YOU WITH WELLNESS They say “April showers bring May flowers” so I guess we should embrace the rain, and the cold snap, April has brought us. (Thankfully it’s warmed up.) But sometimes rain can be a downer or a trigger. And not knowing what to wear in this changing weather may lead to an unexpected cold. And what about spring allergies?!? All the more reason to make sure your wellness tools are ready for spring. As mentioned in last month’s Facilitator Focus, you may want to pull out your WRAP® and do a “spring checkup”. Many of you may be planning a WRAP® class for the spring. If so, don’t forget to let me know when it is scheduled in case I have someone looking for a class. Kathy Franks of One Voice Dundalk is currently doing a class that runs on Saturdays thru April and part of May. I will be co-facilitating a 4 by 4 with Mike Diskin at the Silver Spring Wellness and Recovery Center beginning on May 9th. Also, if you would like to do a class and are in need of a co-facilitator, let me know and I will send out the call to the facilitator listserv to find someone to work with you. Perhaps you are at a provider agency and WRAP® has not yet taken off. Facilitators can come to your site to help get the staff on board with a presentation. And speaking of presentations, I will be contacting those of you that expressed interest in presenting very soon as I begin to line up locations for presentations. In late March, there was a facilitator training at BCRI in Baltimore. The WRAP® Outreach Project added 10 more facilitators to the foal, bringing the total number of facilitators trained by the Project to over 260. Here’s a picture of the class with me and Daphne. If you are working at a wellness and recovery center and need support or help with getting your WRAP® program in the swing, please let me know. I and other facilitators are available to help support you with cofacilitation or setting up your WRAP® Support Group. Just let us know. Finally, May is Mental Health Month. If you or your organization are doing something special, let us know. Don’t forget the “Walking in My Shoes” art event at the American Visionary Art Museum on May 19th from 1-5 pm. April 22nd is the deadline for art submissions. I’ll be there! Will you? Hope to see you. WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU! Would you like to share your experiences as a facilitator with the other Project Facilitators? Just write a short article and send it to me by the end of any month and I will publish it in the next month’s Facilitator Focus. Or if you have a topic of interest you’d like see written about, just let me know. I am always looking for new things to write about. See you next month! Denise
