The Adult Learning Theory session will provide trainers with the insight, knowledge, and skills to effec vely plan and deliver instruc on to adult learners in the field of early childhood educa on. Topics include principles of adult learning, the key differences between adults and children as learners, adap ng the classroom environment for adult students, learning style/teaching style, implemen ng ac ve learning, and mo va on and reinforcement. Date: Friday, February 19, 2016 Time: 9 am ‐ 4 pm Loca on: William Caspar Graustein Memorial Fund 2319 Whitney Avenue #2B, Hamden, CT 06518 Presenter(s): Dr. Laurie Noe Fee: $40 Register by: Monday, February 15, 2016 About the presenter: Dr. Laurie Noe is a professor of Early Childhood Inclusive Educa on and Chair of the Behavioral and Social Sciences Department at Housatonic Community College, an early childhood consultant and a speaker at na onal, regional, and local educa onal conferences. She has been an adjunct instructor for Nova Southeastern University and Sacred Heart University, a preschool teacher, a preschool director and the execu ve director of a nonprofit agency that created the Literacy Caravan. Dr. Noe has wri en preschool curriculum for na onally distributed programs; published ar cles in Journal of Staff Development and NAEYC’s Beyond the Journal; contributed to the CT Charts‐a‐Course Early Language and Literacy curriculum both as a Panel of Expert member and outline developer; and created workshops for early childhood teachers, directors, supervisors, managers, and parents. The Adult Learning 2 session will review how to integrate the theories, principles and techniques learned in the Adult Learning Theory 1 session into your presenta on. Building off of this knowledge, this session will highlight the 4 main areas trainers typically need improvement (introduc on of the training; ques oning and assessment techniques to ascertain par cipant acquisi on of training content; closure of the training; and meaningful reflec on) to create an inten onal, well‐planned and meaningful presenta on that relates to par cipants current work with young children and families. Adult Learning 3 explores the brain‐based perspec ve of how adults learn, what founda onal strategies work for professional learning, and the role of the facilitator or trainer in helping people make learning connec ons. This experience will get you thinking outside the box and playing with old ideas in new ways. Par cipants will be expected to bring an example of a training that they've conducted so we can work in small groups and analyze your work through a brain‐based learning lens. Date: Friday, April 15, 2016 Time: 9 am ‐ 4 pm Loca on: William Caspar Graustein Memorial Fund 2319 Whitney Avenue #2B, Hamden, CT 06518 Presenter(s): Deborah Adams, Fee: $40 Register by: Monday, April 11, 2016 About the presenter: Deborah Adams is an educa on consultant at the CT Office of Early Childhood working on workforce development. She’s had 16 years in the field as a preschool teacher, a site manager of a School Readiness Program, and program director then execu ve director of the UCONN Child Development Laboratories before moving into state service. Deborah holds a PhD in Adult Learning and two degrees in early childhood educa on with CT PreK‐3 teaching cer fica on. Deborah was an independent early childhood consultant facilita ng professional development experiences with teachers and administrators. One of her emerging interests addresses effec ve professional development design that fosters change in prac ce and promotes posi ve outcomes for all children.
