Breathtaker Lodge, Mount Buller
Thanks to all members who attended work parties in February and March
where a significant amount of general cleaning and maintenance was
completed. Major work this year is the installation of seven new showers
upstairs. Say farewell to soggy shower curtains! This work is well on track and
will greatly enhance the amenity of the lodge.
Remaining work party dates are:
 16 & 17 April 2016
 21 & 22 May 2016
Notes: All members wanting to attend a work party are asked to advise the
VP MT BULLER ([email protected]) of their planned attendance and
any accommodation requirements. Overnight stays in the lodge are at no cost,
but requirements must be advised in advance.
Non-winter bookings
The Buller lodge is becoming increasingly popular for non-winter bookings. Mt
Buller hosts a number of sensational summer events including food and wine
festivals, music events, mountain biking and cycling competitions, car races,
Easter celebrations and much more.
Since the close of the 2015 winter season, large group bookings have been
taken at the Navy lodge during almost every month. A lodge manager was in
place over the Victorian March long weekend and the Easter weekend and
many members took the opportunity to partake in the host of ‘green season’
activities on offer.
Lockers & Ski Racks.
The clean out of old gear from the basement and lockers has been ongoing.
Additional ski and snowboard racks have been installed. The master list of
those members with lockers and/or ski racks has been updated and
appropriate charges have been added to the Membership Renewals. If you no
longer require a locker or rack, please advise VP MT BULLER as there is a
waiting list of other members wanting lockers & racks.

Annual Club Race and Dinner – 6 August 2016
The annual Club Race and dinner will be held on 6 August. ‘Members only’
bookings are taken for this weekend. As per previous years, members will
battle it out in Giant Slalom on the Skyline race course and in addition, a Cross
Country race will be held in the afternoon. A dinner and awards ceremony will
follow in the evening. The theme this year is Greek!
This premier event is very popular and the lodge is always full with a long
waiting list. So get your bookings in early to avoid disappointment. However,
remember that if you miss out on a booking in the Navy lodge and are staying
in alternative accommodation, you can still attend the races and dinner.
Thredbo
Work Parties
A strongly attended work party was held on 20/21 February and a lot of
basic cleaning, housekeeping and ground maintenance activities were
achieved. Further work parties are planned for:
 16/17 April
 21/22 May
Nominations to the Maintenance Manager Ed Watson, preferably by email
[email protected] (H) 02 6296 3207 (M) 0421 375 948.
Accommodation Block Window Replacements
25 ageing windows will be replaced with modern efficient triple glazed
windows prior to the start of the season. With the opening ability to turn or
tilt, and fitted with flyscreens, they will provide a much needed improvement
to Thredbo’s habitability, energy saving and safety.
Fire Safety Upgrades for This Season
The lodge is currently undertaking a number of fire upgrade improvements.
The major items include: additional fire exit lighting; replacement fire doors
for the Boiler Room; new door seals and adjusted door closing mechanisms
for many doors throughout the lodge; installation of a fire alarm monitoring
system; and, replacement of the water damaged fire rated plasterboard
ceiling in some bathrooms. The majority of the work will be contracted as
certification is required.
Lodge Openings
Should there be sufficient interest and opportunity around the above
improvements, Thredbo will be open for the following:
 Easter 24-29 March
 High Country Wine and Cheese Festival 8-10
April
 NSW School Holidays 10-26 April
 ANZAC Period 22-26 April
 Jazz Festival 6-8 May

Perisher
Summer all of lodge bookings are up. There were 2 whole of lodge bookings
following Winter but before Christmas. There has been one since and three
more due before winter. We have held two work parties. Attendance at the
first one was good but the second one had a lot of Canberrans coming down
with the Flu on the Friday. All reports are that the Canberra Multi Cultural
Festival didn't suffer the same problem. No major defects occurred during
the reporting period.
ln the December Newsletter, we reported that a Design Application had been
made by Telstra to site a new tower in the Blue Cow area. lt appears to have
been acted upon. At the recent work parties, it was noticed that Telstra
21314 Bar
(4G) is available outside the lodge whilst inside it is still the same old 1 Bar
(3G)
is available, but with sometimes 2 Bar in the lounge room. We may have
insulated the lodge too well.
Finally, we have all positions filled for Perisher Managers for Winter 2016. All
managers have been notified.
Visitors to our lodges
The Club welcomes its members to use the facilities of our lodges during the
day, e.g. a place to have lunch and dry off for “day-trippers.” However, for
safety and courtesy reasons, any member partaking of this privilege should
introduce themselves to the lodge manager.
Similarly, it is your Club and your friends and guests are most welcome to join
you in the lodges. However, you are responsible for the behaviour of your
guests and you are asked to please advise them to be considerate of others
using the lodges. Anyone inviting a visitor into the lodge for a drink, etc.,
should also advise the manager as a matter of courtesy as well as for safety
reasons.
Club Communications
Please note the new email address in the header of this Newsletter,
[email protected] and update your email contacts.
The old email, which is attached to the Webmaster’s personal phone account will be
decommissioned at the end of April, so any emails to it after that date will bounce.
Also, keep a watch on our website and Facebook pages for late News and offers which
come up on occasions. It could be to your benefit.

Nothing is as easy as it looks.
Everything takes longer than you think.
Anything that can go wrong will go wrong.
If there is a possibility of several things going wrong, the one that will cause the

6. If you perceive that there are four possible ways in which a procedure can go
