CREATIVE ZONE PRACTICE DAY:
PRACTICE
PRACTICE
ISO Light Testing:
With the lights on, set your camera to the appropriate ISO. Test several test shots
until you get the correct amount of light in the camera for a well-lit (not too dark
or too light) shot. Try and keep the photo from looking “noisy.” With the lights off,
see what you can do.
Aperture Mug in Foreground with Holiday Lights in Background:
Set up a coffee mug on the table. Position yourself so the lights are in the
background. Adjust your DOF to shallow so that the mug is in focus in the lights
are blurred and look like blobs of light. You can try this in AV and/or M modes.
Aperture Soda Cans:
Layer the soda cans one after the other. Practice taking photos with a shallow
DOF so that with each photo the focus is only on one of the cans. Use manual
focus if needed. You can try this in AV and/or M modes.
Aperture Words:
Find something with words on it. Get really close and adjust the DOF and take
photos of the words with shallow DOF and deep DOF. You can try this in AV
and/or M modes.
PRACTICE
Shutter Speed Movement:
Have one student remain still while another student around them dances or
moves around. Adjust the shutter speed so that you can blur/imply the action.
The still student should be still and in focus. Keep adjusting the shutter speed and
see how the pictures look different. You can try this in TV and/or M modes.
Shutter Speed Flash Light:
Turn out the lights and use a flash light or light on your phone. Adjust the shutter
speed to blur light movement. Try and write your name or make a shape. Design
something fun with light. You can try this in TV and/or M modes.
PRACTICE
ISO, Aperture and Shutter Speed for Perfect Lighting in the Dark:
Turn out the overhead lights and take a picture of someone using only available
light. Adjust the ISO, aperture and shutter speed so that the light meter indicator is
set to “0” for a quality, well-lit exposure. *You may need a tripod* M Mode only!
