Käo Basic school (Käo Põhikool)
Käo Basic School
Käo Basic School is a private school that is
created by MTÜ Inimeselt Inimesele (From
people to people NGO).
Käo Põhikool is a school for students who have
special educational needs – severe and
profound cognitive/developmental and multiple
learning disability (PMLD).
Our school is free of charge for our students.
School provides special needs children an
opportunity to study while receiving
rehabilitation during the school day.
Daycare Centre Käo
• Learning and educational activities are
carried out in cooperation between Käo
Basic School and Päevakeskus Käo
(daycare centre Käo).
• Daycare centre Käo offers various welfare
and care services for children and adults
with disabilities.
Learning and educational
activities are based on
individual study plan (IEP).
Teaching is based on the
principles of the comprehensive
education.
Study groups
We have different study groups based on
the principles of the comprehensive
education:
•language and communication;
•cognition and perception;
•social relationship and group work;
•manual activity and fine motor skills;
•music and movement;
•general motor skills.
Tablet PC in Käo Basic School
• Tablet PC’s are used since 2012.
• First idea was to develop working alternative and
augmentative communication(AAC) system for
tablet PC.
• Estonian grammas is quite difficult(e.g. our
language has 14 cases). Käo Basic School did not
have enough time and enough knowledge to develop
working AAC system for tablets.
• Tablet PC’s are now used as learning devices.
• Tablets are used in every subject developing every
kind of knowledge.
