WHY SHOULD WE GROW A GARDEN?
Having a garden in a house, neighborhood and public parks is so important. A lot of benefits
can be gained from these gardens. Fresh fruits and vegetables can be grown and used by
people. As the food is used on a daily basis by people, they deserve the best and healthiest
food available in order to prevent food poisoning, and other diseases that come with food.
People should grow their own garden, and by that, they can see what they are eating. Gardens
need work to make the plants healthy, and with that, the gardener has to do physical work to
keep his garden growing. Fruits and vegetables would be cheaper than in stores because they
are grown locally. Relationships among people in the neighborhood would be close and
strong because they share the same garden. The reason why I am writing this research is to
mention how growing a garden is important because of 1) health, 2) economy, and 3)
relationships that can be beneficial to people.
OXYGEN AND CARBON DIOXIDE PRODUCING:
Trees produce Oxygen (O2), and absorb Carbon dioxide (CO2), which means trees will make
the Planet Earth gases healthier. It is well known that people inhale oxygen and exhale carbon
dioxide. That means the plants and trees make the gas balanced. The more gardens that are
grown by people, the more healthy gas people would have (not to mention the population
growth that is increasing every year, or the increase of the green house gases that affect the
Ozone). According to the authors of the web site “Cultivating Community Gardens,”
"Community gardens reduce pollutants in our air by absorbing carbon dioxide" (para. 16).
WHAT BENEFITS OF GROWING GARDENS?
Exercise is important for everybody for their heath and their life. Many people do not find
enough time to do any exercise or to go to the gym during the day. Gardens can give people
the best way to burn calories that they need without any specific tools. People have to do
physical work to make their gardens healthy. They have to hoe, remove weeds, and water.
Michael Pollan, who is a best-selling author, “mentions the health benefits of 'burning
calories without having to get into the car to drive to gym'” (qtd. in “Gardening” para. 1). The

writer means that people have rouse their body by using some garden tools, or maybe devices
that are heavy which make them use their body to run them. As the authors of the web site
“Cultivating Community Gardens,” report:
Gardening is a recommended form of moderate physical activity. Community
gardening can encourage more active lifestyles by providing children and adults the
opportunity to exercise by stretching, bending, walking, digging and lifting tools and plants.
(Para. 8).
