How to upgrade the drivers for keyboards with built-in smartcard readers
If users are facing issues with performing CMS operations using keyboard with built-in
smartcard readers, they need to follow below mentioned steps to upgrade the correct
drivers.
Note: Users need to have Admin privileges on the machine.
Type ‘Device Manager’ in start Menu -
Device Manager screen will open –
Expand the ‘Smart card readers’ option and you will see all the smartcard readers connected –
The smartcard reader of the keyboard has the default Microsoft driver as displayed above. User will
need to upgrade this driver to the keyboard manufacturer’s latest drivers. (e.g. If users are using HP
keyboard then they need to upgrade to smartcard reader drivers, if users are using fujitsu keyboard
then they need to upgrade to fujitsu smartcard drivers and so on.)
Following are the steps to upgrade the driver (HP keyboard is used as an example) –
1. Under Smart card readers section, right click on the ‘Microsoft Usbccid Smartcard Reader
(WUDF)’ driver and click on ‘Update driver software…’
2. Click option ‘Browse my computer for driver software’
3. Select ‘Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer’ option and click ‘Next’ –
4. Uncheck the ‘Show compatible Hardware’ checkbox. This will display list of drivers from all
the manufacturers. Default Microsoft is showing selected.
5. Search the manufacturer of the keyboard which is connected to your machine in the list. (HP
is used in this example). Once the manufacturer is selected it shows the list of models in the
model section. Select appropriate driver and click ‘Next’.
If the Model section does not show the list of drivers, then users need to install the latest
drivers from manufacturer’s website. After installing the drivers from the website the list of
drivers will be displayed.
6. Click ‘Yes’
7. If the message is showing the driver is installed successfully, click ‘Close’
8. The upgraded driver will be displayed in device manager.
