EDUCATION SUNDAY
2016: All are Welcome
ST PETERS CHURCH, ADDINGHAM
Sunday 11th September
…….something a little different
As part of its contribution to Education Sunday, St Peter’s Church in Addingham
is organising an event where four local academics have volunteered to give short
talks about their work and the contribution their subject makes to the community.
The event will be held in the Church at 4.00pm – 5.30pm
on Sunday 11th September 2016
This is not specifically a Christian event and not all the contributors are of a religious
persuasion. It’s an event for everyone, and will give you an opportunity to learn a bit
more about what some of your neighbours in the village get up to in their daily work
in higher education and, being academics, they have been asked to make a ‘critical
evaluation’ of the impact of their discipline on the community and society and on the
lives of their students.
The speakers are:
Dr. Andrew Evans
Senior Lecturer in Geography at Leeds University.
Dr. Carol Miles
Retired Principal Lecturer in English Literature at
the University of Winchester.
Prof. Stan Wainer
Emeritus Professor of Pure Mathematics and a past
Head of the School of Mathematics at the
University of Leeds. He remains research active as
a member of its Mathematical Logic Group.
Prof. Arthur Francis Retired Dean of the School of Management at
Bradford University and Prof. Emeritus of
Management
The event will be chaired by Roger Bainbridge,
Chairman of Ilkley and District U3A
Why not make an afternoon of it and call into our Church Hall first and enjoy a piece of home made
cake and cup of tea/coffee at a very reasonable price served by our team of volunteers from 2.00pm.
