Equality Objectives 2014 - 2017

Equality Objectives 2014 2017
Equality Objectives
As well as being a legal requirement, setting objectives encourage an outcome-focused approach to
setting challenging but measurable targets to address the most pressing issues in terms of workforce and
service delivery.
Information analysis and priorities for action from the Equalities Report 2011 informed the development of
the objectives and the Trust consulted with the Council of Governors as representatives of public members
and staff members along with senior clinical leaders and partner organisations. Following ongoing work
through 2012 and 2013, the Equality Objectives have been reviewed and revised to take us forward into
2017.
We chose our objectives by considering evidence from patient and public feedback, complaints and PALS
enquiries, as well as national staff and patient surveys.
Our Objectives are as follows:
1. We will establish a broad based equality and diversity group to lead on the
implementation of the NHS Equality Delivery System (EDS11) framework and
champion our programme of work related to equality and diversity;
2. We will foster an organization which understands the culture needs of our patients and
staff and encourages an inclusive environment. This will be done through a series of
activities including cultural awareness campaigns;
3. We will continue to build on our work to ensure the needs of vulnerable patients are
met when receiving healthcare. This will include promoting the MENCAP ‘Getting it
Right Charter’ for learning Disabilities and MIND/Rethink mental health ‘time to change’
campaign.
The objectives will be reviewed annually in light of the annual equality information reports and any changes
in the organisation and governance, as well as the outcomes of equality analyses of policies and functions.
Refer to Appendix 1 for the equality objectives action plan.
