• A project is defined as a temporary endeavor with a beginning and an end that is undertaken to
create a product, service, or result.
• There are typically 3 main constraints for any given project
Scope: Refers to the product requirements that need to be delivered
Time: Refers to the amount of time needed to deliver a product
Resource: Refers to the resources needed to complete a project (i.e. infra, people, cost, etc.)
• These constraints are typically referred to as the Project Management Triangle where each side
represents a constraint. One constraint cannot be changed without affecting the others.
• The challenge of project management is delivering a product while
balancing these 3 constraints

• Traditional Project Management follows a linear and sequential model
•
•
•
•
•
Initiation
Planning & Design
Execution (Development & Testing)
Monitoring and Control
Closing
• The stages may vary depending on the industry or environment but the key is that
each stage follows another in a sequential manner (i.e. complete first step and
move on to the next)
• In Software Development this model is called “Waterfall”

• Agile Development an iterative and incremental approach to developing software.
• Reduces the complexity of traditional software development by breaking down
the long cycles often associated with traditional frameworks into smaller,
incremental chunks (2-4 weeks) and iterating on it until all the requirements are
met.
• Welcomes changing requirements, even late in development.
• Working software is the primary measure of progress
