Curtin University Instagram Selfie Competition
Terms and conditions of entry
1.
Instructions on how to enter and other details contained within promotional advertisements for this
competition form part of the conditions of entry.
2.
Entry into the competition signifies acceptance of all conditions. Entrants are required to abide by the
Terms and Conditions as presented.
3.
The Terms and Conditions of this competition are governed by the laws of the State of Western Australia.
4.
The competition is being run by Curtin University of Technology, GPO Box U1987, Perth, Western
Australia, 6845 (“Curtin”).
5.
The Curtin Instagram Selfie Competition (“the competition”) commences at 9 am Australian Western
Standard Time (AWST) on Monday 10 March 2014.
6.
The closing time for entering the competition is 4 pm AWST on Wednesday 12 March 2014.
7.
Entry to the competition open to anyone attending the Curtin Festival of Learning from Monday 10 March
2014 to Wednesday 12 March 2014.
8.
To enter the competition, the entrant must:
o
(a) download the Instagram app for Android or iPhone and be aware of this application's Terms of Use;
o
(b) take a photograph of themselves (“a selfie”) at one of the Festival of Learning events;
o
(c) upload their photo to Instagram using #curtinfolselfie (your privacy settings must be set to 'public' for
us to retrieve your photo);
o
(d) to gain bonus points:

Download the free augmented reality app from
www.7scenes.com and access the Festival of Learning scene
under the Curtin University channel. Find the secret locations,
take a photo of yourself (“a selfie”) at each of these locations
and upload the photos to Instagram with #curtinfolselfie.

Complete the game, Oculus Rift, at the stand in the Guild
Courtyard on Wednesday 12 March 2014. The score is allocated
on successful completion of the game and will be added to the
entrant’s photo tally.
o
(e) ensure that their entry is received between 9 am (AWST) on Monday 10 March 2014 and 4 pm
(AWST) on Wednesday 12 March 2014.

Entry to the competition is free. Entrants will be responsible for all costs associated with entering the
competition, which may include costs associated with accessing the internet.
10. Entry to the competition is made when the entrant labels their photo taken on the application Instagram,
with #curtinfolselfie. Only entries submitted via the Instagram application and which are appropriately
hashtagged will be accepted. Photographs submitted must be original works.
11. Entrants may enter the competition as many times as they like, however a different image must be
submitted each time.
12. By entering the competition the entrant agrees that they are over the age of 18 years, or if under the age of
18 years, have their parent’s or legal guardian’s consent to enter the competition.
13. Content submitted must not be illegal, fraudulent, sexist, racist, discriminatory, misleading or deceptive,
defamatory, obscene or offensive, inappropriate for people under the age of 18, off-topic, or negatively
impact on the Curtin brand (as determined by Curtin). Entries that breach the listed entry restrictions
above may be deemed invalid, at Curtin’s sole and absolute discretion.
14. By entering this competition, entrants give Curtin the nonexclusive, royalty free transferable license to use
any material submitted as part of this entry for the purposes of conducting and promoting this competition
in all media known or later devised, in perpetuity.
15. Staff employed by Curtin and their immediate family members are eligible to enter the competition.
16. There will be one (1) first prize. This will be a silver Apple iPad Mini with retina display, wi-fi, 16GB
and an orange cover valued at four hundred and seventy eight dollars ($478AUD). There will one (1)
runner-up prize. This will be a 3D body scan supplied by Curtin University Art Department valued at
eighty dollars ($80AUD). There will be one (1) second runner-up prize. This will be a Curtin University
Guild recharge card valued at fifty dollars ($50AUD). There will also be ten (10) bonus coffee voucher
prizes valued at ten dollars ($10AUD) that can be used at a Curtin Student Guild venue.
17. First prize will be awarded to the entrant who accumulates the highest number of points. The runner-up
prize will be awarded to the entrant who has accumulated the second highest number of points. The
second runner-up prize will be awarded to the entrant who has accumulated the third highest number of
points. Entrants can accumulate points by:
o
one (1) point for each selfie taken at a Festival of Learning location (workshop, presentation or
exhibit) and uploaded to Instagram with the hashtag #curtinfolselfie
o
one (1) point for each “like” received for a correctly entered selfie
Bonus points
o
five (5) points for each selfie taken at a secret location found using the free 7scenes augmented
reality app, uploaded to Instagram and tagged with #curtinfolselfie
o
ten (10) points for a perfect score in the Occulus Rift game or from an accumulated Occulus
Rift score.
18. The bonus prizes will be awarded to the:
o
six (6) photographs with the most amount of likes
o
three (3) zaniest or most original photographs – (see point 17)
o
entrant who has uploaded the most selfies at the secret places on the free 7scenes augmented
reality app and tagged them with #curtinfolselfie. If there are two or more entrants who have
uploaded the greatest number of selfies at the secret places, the first entrant to have uploaded
the images will be deemed the winner.
19. Curtin will select the entry that is deemed to be the “zaniest or most original” (as determined by Curtin in
its sole and absolute discretion and based on the fulfilment of the competition’s theme). The selected
photos will be deemed the winner. Curtin's decision will be final and no correspondence will be entered
into.
20. The winner, runner-up, second runner-up and bonus prize winners (“prize winners”) will be contacted
within fourteen (14) days of the competition ending. These prize winners will be contacted on Instagram
via a comment by @curtinuniversity on their winning image/s.
21. The prizes are valid until Monday 28 April 2014.
22. If a prize winner is under the age of 18 years, their prize will be awarded to their parent or legal guardian.
23. The prize winners, or if under the age of 18 years their parent or legal guardian, must prove their identity
by showing the profile page of the Instagram account their winning image was posted from.
24. The prize winners will be responsible for all costs associated with collecting and using their prize.
25. The prizes are not redeemable for cash or an alternative prize.
26. The prizes are not transferrable, refundable, or redeemable for cash.
27. Curtin is not responsible in any manner whatsoever for any problems or any financial costs incurred, or
any combination thereof, including any injury or damage to participants or any other persons related to or
resulting from participation in this competition.
28. Curtin accepts no responsibility and shall not be held legally liable or responsible for any accident, loss,
injury or damage to any individual or property whether direct or indirect, whether in contract, tort,
negligence or otherwise arising out of or in connection with the competition or the prizes, either during or
after the competition.
29. Where the competition is communicated on Facebook, entrants acknowledge that the competition is in no
way sponsored, endorsed or administered by or associated with Facebook and entrants and participants in
the competition release Facebook and its associated companies from all liability arising from the
competition. Entrants provide their information to Curtin and not to Facebook.
30. Personal information provided by an entrant to Curtin for the purpose of entering the Competition will be
collected, used and disclosed in accordance with Curtin’s Privacy Statement. A copy of the privacy
statement is available at http://global.curtin.edu.au/legal/privacy.cfm. Personal information collected will
be kept strictly confidential and will not be sold, reused, rented, loaned or otherwise disclosed to any third
party otherwise than in accordance with the Curtin privacy statement and these Terms and Conditions.
