Global relations Core 2 project

Global Relations
Core 2
Core 2: The Task
As you are now aware, one of the main objectives
of Global Relations is to develop your ability to
apply the concepts and principles of American
foreign policy to the daily flow of events and to
specific foreign policy issues. Working with your
Core 1 group, identify strategies to resolve the
foreign policy challenge you first explored.
You will have 7 in-class days to
complete this task. Work at home is
necessary.
Core 2: Content Requirements
Your group represents a well-respected think tank in both the United
States and the broader international community. You have been called
upon to brief the President or UN Secretary General and relevant
advisors on your issue.
• Identify TWO (three for honors) alternative policy options and for each:
• Identify the goal(s)
• Outline plan of action
•
Explain what should be done, by whom, and how it will bring about your preferred
outcome. Be specific.
• Delineate advantages and disadvantages of each policy option
• Choose ONE of your options to be presented as the "optimal"
policy option. Briefly defend your choice.
• What does success for your proposal look like in the short and long
run? Consider U.S. image in world, reaction of allies, foreign
responses, etc.
• What are the positive consequences of your policy?
• What are the potential roadblocks to your policy's success? What possible
negative consequences might result?
Core 2: Component Requirements
Individual Annotated Bibliography
• For this bibliography, your goals are to:
• Identify varying perspectives on this issue within the domestic political spectrum
on foreign policy? What are those perspectives?
• Gain insight into the creation of YOUR own foreign policy option(s)
• Construct a properly formatted MLA style annotated bibliography for
TWO unique sources. This means that in a group of 4 students there will
be at least 8 unique articles/sources.
• All sources must be relevant to the topic and as recent in scope as
possible.
• The annotation section of the bibliography should include...
• Paragraph 1: Summary— what specific information did you take from this source?
• Paragraph 2: Reflection and Evaluation— how did this source contribute to your
development of a policy option? How can you use this information/evidence in
your presentation? Are there any possible bias and/or limitations to the source?
• NOTE: For a score of “Advanced” on your bibliography your annotations
must be “comprehensive, detailed, and insightful” and you must exceed
the required number of three annotated sources.
Core 2: Component Requirements
• Group Foreign Policy Brief
• Create a one-page briefing document that previews your presentation for the
judges as well as provides a helpful roadmap for how your solutions work
together in solving your identified problem.
• Include a MLA formatted works cite page on the back of the briefing
document.
•
• Presentation
• Must be at least 10 minutes and no longer than 12 minutes long.
• Must use a technology tool (Power Point, Prezi, Movie Maker, etc.) in a way
that enhances the presentation and engages the audience in an interactive
way. Some examples of this are Poll Everywhere, Google Earth, video or
audio clips, powerful images and infographics.
• Must show evidence of rehearsal (NO READING from slides or note cards).
•
• Question & Answer with Constructive Feedback
• Following the presentation, group members will field questions from an
outside judging panel and have an opportunity to hear constructive feedback
on their work. This feedback may inform the teacher's final evaluation.
Core 2: The Judges

will present to a panel of community members
and/or district administrators who have agreed
to serve as judges for this assessment.
