PDG Steel 400 double-headed mitre saw
CNC-controlled saw feed for the highest levels
of quality
Bielefeld. The new Schüco PDG Steel 400 double-headed
mitre saw for steel profiles guarantees reliable sawing
performance under heavy workloads. The rate of feed and
cutting depth of the CNC-controlled saw feed can be set
individually. The machine can be controlled directly via
SchüCal. The saw blade is surface-treated, which results in
a long useful life for the saw blades.
The PDG Steel 400 double-headed mitre saw has a one-part,
inherently strong machine bed in an inclined-bed design and
works with two saw blades which are 400 mm in diameter and
automatically retract after cutting. The saw blades – which are
infinitely adjustable between 20-350 rpm – are coated with
titanium aluminium nitride and hence not only have a very rigid
surface, but also a low level of thermal conductivity. Five
controlled axes guarantee infinitely variable tilting of the saw
heads +/- 45° outwards and inwards, the saw blade feed and
the cutting length setting. Health and safety is ensured during
the sawing process thanks to a protective hood with inspection
window which covers the work area and opens automatically.
Excess lengths and short sections
With the PDG Steel 400, fabricators can saw profiles with a
maximum cutting length of 5000 mm for double cuts and 9600
mm for excess length cuts. The minimum cutting length is 250
mm for double cuts (90°/90°) and under 250 mm with the short
cutting program (90°/90°). During the cutting process,
microtropic lubrication on the cut section ensures that there is
no frictional heat. The rate of feed and cutting depth can be set

using the CNC-controlled saw feed. Fast retraction is also
controlled.
Planning and basic control with SchüCal
Convenient, menu-based operation and control takes place on
a PC by means of a 12-inch touchscreen. The cutting lists for
the PDG Steel 400 are generated directly in SchüCal and then
transferred by USB or via a network. Using the control unit, the
profile clamping position with profile cross section can be
viewed, the cutting lists can be fabricated flexibly, and the
automatic length correction can be set for mitre cuts (maximum
or inside dimension).
The double-headed mitre saw weighs 3000 kg and measures
1700 mm in height, 1800 mm in depth and 8800 mm in width. It
is available in the colours RAL 9006 (white aluminium) and RAL
7016 (anthracite grey). A label printer can be ordered as an
option.
Conclusion: The PDG Steel 400 double-headed mitre saw
delivers reliable sawing performance under heavy workloads.
