Placement of Thermocouples into the Soil Profile at the Hollister EPSCoR Sagebrush Flux Site
Placement is ~ 0.2 m north and east of sensors at EC#1 site,
Soil subsite #2. Surface is bare, crusted, open, about 0.3 m to
the south and to the west of sage brush, with few grasses, but with
substantial grass roots in top 0.10 or 0.15 m of soil.
Excavated hole, refilled to near original density
using six layers in original order
#1 - 0.02 m
#2 - 0.04 m
substantial grass roots
to 0.10 m
Constantin-Chromel TC’s, Type E,
~ 1 mm diameter, Soldered at ends
and potted in plastic suringe package-tips
using silicone sealer.
low density soil
b.d.~ 1.2?
#3 - 0.08 m
#4 - 0.12 m
#5 - 0.18 m
occaisional rocks
~ 60 mm diam.

b.d.~ 1.35?
#6 - 0.24 m
#7 - 0.32 m
