ACTIVITY #1 Set up: Four players - 2 strikers, 2 central midfield

SoccerSpecific.com Session Plan: ss_Harrison_Movement. Finishing of Strikers
ACTIVITY #1
Set up: Four players - 2 strikers, 2 central midfield players are
organised as shown with a supply of balls. A goalkeeper is
positioned in a full-size goal.
Instructions: Runs Down the Sides; The strikers work on the
timing and co-ordination of their runs to create goalscoring
opportunities. Passes made as if from central midfield (Players 3
& 4). Work both sides. First player (3) moves the ball away then
checks back and passes to other central midfield player (4). This
helps prepare the strikers (1) and (2) in the timing of their run.
Ensure they don’t go too early (which is normally the case) or too
late. Other striker follows in for rebounds. Repeat sequence until
pattern / movement is acceptable.
Coaching Points:
Turns / spins should be short and sharp.
Quality of finishing
Sharp accurate passing
Communication between all players - verbal / visual
ACTIVITY #2
Set up: Four players - 2 strikers, 2 central midfield players are
organised as shown with a supply of balls. A goalkeeper is
positioned in a full-size goal.
Instructions: Cross-Over Runs - Balls Passed Down the Sides;
Players perform "crossover runs" to move defenders and create
space for attackers. First run towards the ball is to draw defenders
to them. Turn / spin must be short and sharp across the defenders
shoulder so their turn to track the run is more difficult. Diagram
illustrates Player (1) receiving the ball for a shot on goal.
*Ensure they don’t go too early (which is normally the case) or
too late. Other striker follows in for rebounds.
Coaching Points:
Avoid an arc run which is easier for a defender to recover against.
Turns / spins should be short and sharp.
Quality of finishing
Sharp accurate passing
Communication between all players - verbal / visual
ACTIVITY #3
Set up: Four players - 2 strikers, 2 central midfield players are
organised as shown with a supply of balls. A goalkeeper is
positioned in a full-size goal.
Instructions: Outside Runs - Balls Played through the Middle;
Players parform "Split" runs to create space centrally for the pass.
Same split runs by strikers as in first activity but the ball is played
through the middle instead of down the side. In the diagram,
Player (2) receives the through-ball from midfielder (4): Player
(1) follows in for rebounds.
*Ensure they don’t go too early (which is normally the case) or
too late. Other striker follows in for rebounds.
Coaching Points:
Think about the turn / spin movement of the striker - Do they turn
inside (and see the ball all the time) or outside (and momentarily
lose sight of the ball). Which is more difficult for the defender to
deal with? (Depends which side the ball is delivered from).
Quality of finishing.

ACTIVITY #4
Set up: Four players - 2 strikers, 2 central midfield players are
organised as shown with a supply of balls. A goalkeeper is
positioned in a full-size goal.
Instructions: First Striker Short; Wall-Pass off Second Striker:
The "first striker" (1) checks to the ball; Midfielder (4) opts to
pass to the second striker (2) who plays a first-time pass into the
path of (1) who has spun quickly to receive the ball in space finish with a shot on goal. Striker (2) must follow up for
rebounds.
Coaching Points:
Timing of first run is vital
Pass must be firm in to feet of second striker.
First striker must spin quickly to receive the pass from (2)
Communication.
ACTIVITY #5
Set up: Four players - 2 strikers, 2 central midfield players are
organised as shown with a supply of balls. A goalkeeper is
positioned in a full-size goal.
Instructions: Strikers Split Runs to get Midfield Player In;
Player (3) passes to (4), (1) and (2) make runs to split and create
space through the center for midfielder (3) to receive the pass
from (4) - Player (3) must "burst" through the middle to receive
the through-ball.
Timing of all runs must be coordinated.
Coaching Points:
Turns / spins should be short and sharp.
