The War Ball!
In WW1, the army men, no matter who, would play soccer every
day!
Soccer is played all around the world every day since it’s so popular.
Men would bring soccer balls to the trenches across from sea nearly
every day/week/month just to have fun! Some un-expecting soldiers
wouldn’t realize they have walked into a game of soccer. The soldiers
would sometimes use metal in their balls so if they could feel the
metal they would inflate it more.
Quote from an unknown soldier in Gallipoli Peninsula…
‘One afternoon when I came over from browns dip towards white
gully, I was surprised to see a soccer ball floating across the air. I set
off down into blind gully and joined in with a number of soldiers who
had brought the ball from Egypt.’
I was interested in this since I like soccer, so what was better than
doing a soccer story in WW1?
We all love soccer!!!
