OVERVIEW
Imagine A Show is a collaborative project designed to
showcase the imagination, passion, talent and creativity of
youth through photography in the Waterloo Region.
Each year we send a challenge to ALL youth (aged 0 to 18)
to pick up their cameras and tell stories that only they can
tell. Once the photos are collected, they are organized and
presented in both a book and a physical collection
that showcases the amazing skill, talent and imagination
of our youth.
This year we delivered workshops with THEMUSEUM,
Maker Expo and Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery and
received over 100 photos from youth across the Region.
Some photos were shown at THEMUSEUM at the end of
2016 while the final collection was presented at Kitchener
Public Library Gallery in March 2017.
This book holds a selection of our 2016 collection and
presents the wonderful photographs created by our youth.

NOTE FROM THE
Imagine… the possibilities
Since Imagine A Show’s first year, my kids have aged five years. As a dad and
photographer, I can flip through physical and digital albums and marvel at how much
they’ve changed and smile at memories left behind.
My photos tell so many stories of their growth and development. But I think their photos tell
a richer and more complex tale.
Through their photos, I can see their eyes opening to the world. I can see the evolution of
their ideas and I can see how my two kids have started to see their surroundings and tell
their stories in two very different ways.
One explores the narrative of the event and enjoys capturing people and spaces that she’s
visited. While the other looks for the beauty hidden off the beaten path… Shadows, light and
form affected by the main events but telling its own different and unique tale.
I will treasure all the photographs. They all tell their stories. And I can’t wait to see what new
chapters unfold.
Imagine… the perspectives
In 2012, Imagine A Show was created to provide opportunities for youth to gain confidence
as they showcased, and we celebrated, their unique and powerful photographic creations.
That first year was not planned to be the start of a multiyear project but now, as we wrap up
our 2016 collection, we are proud to have assembled five books and five collections while
showcasing hundreds of talented youth and over a thousand photos.
We’ve had a busy few years.
Imagine… a show
Thank you to Lori Crewe, the talented photographer and designer who assembled our
book each year and to Anestis Papoutsis who shared with us his love and knowledge of
photography at several workshops and events.
Thank you to all the fantastic organizations, businesses, teachers, parents, guardians and
friends who were part of the inspiration and implementation of this project.
Most importantly, thank you to all the youth who shared their work and ideas through their
photographs. Thank you for the passion you demonstrate in your work and life and thank
you for sharing your photos and perspectives with us all.

JASON PANDA: For the past 10+ years I’ve been a Teacher at KCI in Kitchener,
Ontario. There I have developed programming for both photography and
graphic design and led projects that connect students to real organizations and
opportunities. Outside of school I work with groups, organizations and peers to
develop works that support and connect art with the greater community. A few
collaborative project highlights include a mural developed with the Fine Arts
Society of Milton for the Velodrome (2015 Pan Am Games), a mural developed
with Grand River Hospital for Bell Canada’s #BellLetsTalk campaign and this
project celebrating Youth Photography.
When not working on collaborative projects or formal programming, my personal work explores texture and
storytelling with a medley of traditional and digital media. And, with a background in design, I still dabble in
custom visual solutions to those looking FOR something unique.
In all that I do I am excited by synergy and collaborative efforts that are inclusive and provide unique
opportunities to celebrate art, artists and organizations. jasonpanda.com / @KWPanda
LORI CREWE: Youth never cease to amaze me with their boundless energy and
limitless imagination; evident in the images presented in Imagine A Show. As
designer for the Imagine A Show book, I take great pride in being part of a project
that showcases and honours the creativity of our youth in the Waterloo Region.
In addition to volunteering for various photography-related ventures, I am the
owner and primary photographer at LA Crewe Photography, a commercial studio
providing environmental portraiture and food-related photography to various
businesses in Southern Ontario. In my spare time I enjoy working on fine art
projects that attempt to delve deeper into the human psyche with the optimum
result generating uncomfortable curiosity in the viewer. For my efforts, I have received international recognition
through various publications and awards. loricrewe.com / lacrewe.com / @lacrewe
ANESTIS PAPOUTSIS: I am a Communication Technology teacher who
absolutely loves his job which encompasses techology, creativity and
learning. Photography is my expression of this. Every day there are moments
which we experience, feel and remember. Photography for me captures the
raw reality of these moments and gives me the opportunity to enjoy, reflect
and appreciate each and every memory. Working with students, my goal is
to help them see the world in a unique way to find and express their creativity
through photography. photographwith.me / @photographwith.me /

Each year we’ve been amazed by the submissions and
honoured to pull the collections together.
As we present this year’s collection we hope to inspire
other aspiring artists and encourage everyone to pick
up their camera and explore the art and story that only
they can tell.
