Terrafix Quick Reference Guide

Terrafix Quick Reference Guide
Sign On
On starting your shift you will need to book on to the Terrafix system, you will be presented the
following screen after powering on the vehicle by turning on the ignition.
You will need to input either your pin number which
was given to you by training school (Coxheath and
Banstead Crews) or the last 6 digits of your pay
number – Lewes Crews (pay number is on the top
left of your wage slip) You need to then input 00 in
the shift code box as Shift codes are not
recognised in the new CAD. Once you have sent
this information to EDC by touching the ‘sign on’
button you will need to contact EDC to check they
have received your sign on and confirm the start
and finish times of your shift.
Start of Incident
Despatch Message
When an incident is going to be passed to your vehicle the EDC will send a data message to your
vehicle MDT. This will also now begin to alert your Airwave handsets as detailes are added to the
databases.
The main incident details are shown within
the message window in the Notes field.
This is generated by the CAD and
describes the nature of the incident. To
view more of the incidents details if they are
larger than the window, the scroll bars on
the right hand side of the Incident box may
be pressed.
To acknowledge the incident press the Ack
key and then an appropriate status
Status Messaging
The Status Bar contains a row of buttons for sending status messages, above which are a row of
indicators showing the transmission state of the various status buttons. These are shown below.
The status buttons shown are the ones normally expected as part of the incident sequence. Other
statuses are always available using the Other Status button.

Status Buttons
Going Mobile
When a status button has been pressed, it is usual for the Status Bar to change to reflect the
sequence in the incident. For example, having pressed Go Mobile to an incident, a new set of
Status buttons appropriate for your next response will be displayed. This is illustrated below.
Status Bar after having Gone Mobile
It can be seen from this that the likely next statuses are either At Scene or Other Status, any of
the status buttons can be brought up onto the screen by pressing the Other Status button.
At Scene
When you arrive at scene press the “At Scene” button to send the ‘at scene’ status to control. This
also has the affect of blanking the terminal screen to protect sensitive patient information while the
crew are dealing with the incident. The screen is also blanked when the ‘at hospital’ status is sent.
To switch the screen back on you must touch the top right corner and then the top left corner of
the screen. This will re-activate the screen with the current incident details or map.
Leaving Scene
When the Leaving Scene status is pressed the MDT will then present a list of possible hospitals
you will be transferring to. Use the scroll bars on the right hand side of the screen to locate the
hospital of your choice, select the hospital by touching the screen, the hospital is highlighted blue.
Next select the number of patients being conveyed and finally press the “OK” button.
It is normal for the most recently used hospitals to appear at the
top of the list, for convenience. Otherwise the hospitals are in
alphabetical order and a scroll bar allows the full list to be
viewed.
All other status buttons can be found by pressing the “other
status” button. The same process applies above i.e. the status
indicator will turn Red whilst sending then turn green when it has
been accepted by the CAD back in the EDC.
Other Functionality of the MDT
Control Panel
The Settings button is primarily used for changing the screen brightness and volume. When it is
pressed, an additional panel appears with controls for making the screen brighter or dimmer. The
main use of this is if the default settings are unsuitable, such as in very bright or dark conditions.
Help
There is a full user manual for the MDT held on the computer itself, for reference via the bottom
left button on the screen.
