Job Purpose
To work alongside and lead a team of Part-time Assistant Play Rangers (x2) to
deliver mobile play services in targeted communities to ensure the successful
implementation of the BIG lottery funded North West Wales Play Ranger project
across the Counties of Conwy, Gwynedd or Ynys Môn.
Duties and Responsibilities - Job Specific
1.
To work alongside and lead colleagues in the Play Ranger service team
during play sessions.
2.
To work in line with playwork principles and relevant quality assurance
frameworks
3.
To facilitate child led self directed play within the Play Ranger sessions.
4.
To be responsible for accurate completion of paperwork relating to each
session.
5.
To be responsible for administering/collecting monitoring and evaluation
questionnaires regarding play sessions and forward to the Project Coordinator
6.
To provide feedback regarding play sessions to the Project Co-ordinator/
Local Officer.
7.
To undertake and record reflective practice both individually and as a team.
8.
To liaise with parents and carers of children attending the Play sessions.
9.
To develop and maintain a healthy and safe play environment for children.
10.
To develop and promote positive relationships with the children and
parents/carers.
11.
To respond appropriately to concerns about possible abuse.
12.
To prepare and gather resources needed for each session.
13.
To organise and supervise transportation of the team to each play session.
14.
To participate in training and conferences where requested which are relevant
to the role.
15.
To carry out duties of a similar nature to those described above as may be
directed from time to time including occasional cover in other Counties.
16.
To promote inclusion and the social model of disability within the play
provision
17.
Use a community development approach to the development of the project
including working in partnership with other organisations
Duties and Responsibilities - Corporate
1.
To be responsible for establishing good working relationships both internally
and externally.
2.
Compliance with the Authority’s Policies and Procedures and to make known
to Senior Officers any areas which are not adequately covered.
3.
To participate actively in supporting the Authority’s principles and practices of
equality of opportunity as laid down within the Equal Opportunities Policy.
4.
To be responsible for the application of Health & Safety practices within the
daily operations, sharing a common responsibility for Health & Safety across
the department, directorate and Authority as a whole.
5.
Employees will be required to give certain information relating to themselves
in order that the Authority may properly carry out its duties, rights and
obligations as an employer. The Authority will process and control such data

A relevant qualification in Playwork (level
3)
A commitment to begin working towards
a relevant playwork qualification within 6
months of appointment
Relevant demonstrable experience in
fields such as playwork, youth work,
early years, community development,
sports development
Be able to demonstrate an
understanding of and commitment to, the
playwork principles
Awareness of Health and Safety
legislation, including Care & Social
Services Inspectorate Wales (CSSIW)
standards and child protection.
Good oral and written skills in both
English and Welsh are essential for
Gwynedd and Ynys Mon posts.
Good oral and written skills in both
English and Welsh are advantageous for
the Conwy post.


Current driving licence and access to
own transport
Commitment and enthusiasm are
required for working in an outside
environment during early evenings and
at weekends.
Due to the nature of the work, this post is
subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders
Act 1974, (Exception) (Amendments)
Order 1986 and arrangements are made
for the disclosure of criminal background,
including spent convictions by the Police
to the Local Authority.
