Requirements for the post. Qualifications/ Training Knowledge Essential Desirable Royal Yachting Association (RYA) L2 Royal Yachting Association powerboat cert. (RYA) safety boat cert. Driving licence Driving licence for driving with trailers One or more National Governing Two or more National Body (NGB) recognised Governing Body (NGB) coaching/instructor qualification recognised coaching/instructor and/or United Kingdom Coaching qualifications and/or United Certificate (UKCC). Kingdom Coaching Certificate (UKCC). Relevant and appropriate affiliations Bronze Medallion/NPLQ and registrations to industry Lifeguard qualification. professional bodies where required, e.g. RYA, BCU. A First Aid Certificate as required by NGB, UKCC and/or Professional Body pre requisites where specified. Knowledge of national governing, or professional body schemes (RYA/BCU). Knowledge of industry related quality systems and/or the Adventure Activities Licensing Regulations. Equipment maintenance, e.g. Fibre glass, woodworking, metal working skills. A good understanding of Health & Safety including risk assessments, safe working practices, Manual handling of loads, COSHH and PPE. An understanding of health and Computer literate safety issues related to a water sports facility. An understanding of issues related to the protection of Children and Vulnerable Adults. Understanding of equality issues Understanding of the current NGB development structures / pathways Basic practical knowledge of estate Knowledge of biodiversity works, e.g. tree planting, footpath issues. restoration. Experience Previous experience in working in the leisure and industry or associated working environment. Previous experience working in outdoor/watersports environment. Previous experience working within quality assurance systems. Several years experience coaching/instructing specialist groups such as the disabled where appropriate Physical Skills Water sports personal proficiency in all of the following: -Dinghy sailing -Windsurfing -Kayaking/Canoeing The ability to undertake physical activities consistent with watersports coaching and instruction, and estate tasks Competencies and other skills required Team working skills Decision making skills. A high level of self confidence and assertiveness. Teaching/coaching skills at all ages & level of ability. Customer care skills Ability to motivate others The ability to undertake lesson plans where appropriate The ability to carry out assessments related to risks where needed Patience and sensibilities with all children and special groups where appropriate. Tractor driving and driving with trailers Ability to use power tools and hand tools, e.g. drills, saws, strimmers etc. Basic numeracy and literacy skills. Ability to communicate well, give ,receive and interpret instructions. Ability to complete routine forms and documents Key Outcomes/ Activities MAIN TASKS 1. Undertake support duties on specific areas of the work of the Sport and Active Lifestyles, under the supervision of senior staff. 2. Fully participate in the team working approach to the allocation of duties within the Sport and Recreation Unit. 3. Meet the public and representatives of the Service Units and other departments as necessary and provide appropriate information on request. 4. Contribute to the maintenance of good employee relations within the Sport and Active Lifestyles service. 5. Adhere to and apply legislation, Council Sanding Orders and procedures as appropriate. 6. To deliver a range of coached and instructor led activities that are structured, safe, progressive and enjoyable. Assembling and dismantling of equipment where necessary in a safe and effective manner. Supervise activities of users to prevent injury, misuse and damage to facilities or equipment. To oversee the general safety and behaviour of the public to prevent injury and harm. To respond to general enquiries and deal efficiently with any administrative requirements related to activities e.g. production of activity registers. Undertake specific, compulsory, training as required by the National Governing Body / Professional Body schemes. To ensure coached and instructor led activities are consistent with national governing and/or professional body requirements, standards and pathways. Manning rescue craft and supervising the safety of the public on the water. Supervising public access to and use of the site. Ensuring compliance of all byelaws, quality procedures and health and safety requirements. Advising the public on the safe use of facilities and hire equipment. Ensuring all hire equipment is checked and safe for use by the public. Assisting with special events. Providing general information and advice to the public. Customers and Clients: Responsible for the safety and supervision of the public. Working Conditions: The job holder is required to spend most of their working hours in an outside environment in all weather conditions and therefore requires a good level of physical fitness. The working week will be by rota which will include weekend and bank holidays.
