Fiction This term we will be looking at fairytales and traditional stories. The
children explore a range of fiction. They read the interactive eBook, listening and
responding to the stories then re-telling them in their own words. They learn how
to identify and understand character and events, linking these to their own lives
and experiences. They compose and write simple sentences and questions. As
the children are becoming more confident writers, we will explore ways that they
can improve their writing further by choosing interesting adjectives. The children
will learn to use a thesaurus in order to help them increase their vocabulary.
Fiction Narrative: Penguins Can’t Fly, Flapjack and Waddle adding interest and
detail to writing by using adjectives. Most children will begin to write compound
sentences, where they will join together two ideas using and, but and so.
Non-Fiction Children will learn about different types of reports and their uses.
They will read a variety of reports about real life as well as fictional characters.
The writing tasks involve composing factual sentences about animals from Cold
Lands and Hot lands.
In the second half term they will produce a piece of informative writing about
spring and spring festivals.
Place value Children will count up to and across 100, forwards and backwards.
They will read and write two digit numbers, understanding them as some tens
and some ones.
Mental addition and Subtraction Children will continue to practise their mental
recall of pairs of numbers that make up to 10. They will use their knowledge of
addition and subtraction facts to 10 to help them add and subtract to 20 and with
multiples of 10.
Geometry Children will name, recognise and know the properties of 3D shapes:
cube, cuboid, cone, cylinder and sphere. The will begin to sort 3D shapes
according to properties. Children read and write times to the hour and begin to
have a notion of how long an hour is and how long a minute is. They tell the time
(o’clock and half past) on analogue and digital clocks.
Spring 2
Number and Place Value Children will continue to consolidate their knowledge
of two digit numbers, understanding them as some tens and some ones. They
will count, read and write numbers to 100 in numerals.
Mental addition and Subtraction Children will continue to practise the rapid
and fluent recall of pairs of numbers that make up to 10. Based on their
confident understanding of this, they will focus on developing quick mental recall
of subtraction facts. Children will solve one-step problems that involve addition
and subtraction, using concrete objects, pictorial representations, and missing
number problems.
Fractions
Children will develop an understanding of the meaning of half and quarter. They
will find halves and quarters of shapes and a number of objects, calculating the
answer using concrete objects, pictorial representations and arrays with the
support of the teacher.
Measures Children will continue to read and write times to the hour and begin to
have a notion of how long an hour is and how long a minute is. They tell the time
(o’clock and half past) on analogue and digital clocks.
Position and Direction
Children will learn to describe position, direction and movement, including whole,
half, quarter and three-quarter turns.
Seasons
Children will learn about the impact that seasonal change has on our lives. They
will consider how what we can see and hear shows us that the seasons are
changing and observe how the weather changes across different seasons.

respond on the differences between physically painting and using the computer.
Create an illustration depicting Spring or a Spring festival. Save, retri eve amend
and reflect on their work and act on feedback.
Computing
We are CollectorsFind and use pictures on the web. Know what to do if they encounter pictures
which cause concern. Group images on the basis of a yes/no question. Organise
images into groups according to rules. Sort according to a criteria. Ask and
