Director Update
Family/School Partnership
During our opening All Staff meeting this year, I showed all of our AISF Team, including teachers, teaching
assistants, finance, clerical, and janitors, a short video about teaching and learning. Why did I show that
video to everyone, not just the educators? The video made the point that relationship is at the core of
successful teaching and learning. Of course the relationship between student and teacher is the heart of
learning. But relationships that foster student learning have more dimension than just that one.
Relationships on our team affect student learning.
Even more significant is the relationship between family and school. The relationship between teachers
and the parents of their students is especially important. No one knows a child longer and more deeply
than parents. Parents bring a perspective that teachers cannot see. Sharing those two perspectives
enables teachers to know students more deeply and helps parents glimpse their children from a different
lens.
Mastery learning is learning for a lifetime and mastery learning happens only when two things happen.
1. The teacher has as deep an understanding of your child as possible.
2. The relationship between the family and the teachers is positive and built on the shared purpose
of student learning.
The relationship between parents and teachers is actually a partnership, formed to make certain your
children have an optimal learning experience. Regular communication between teacher and family builds
trust and creates a working partnership. Students benefit when school and home are obviously in
partnership.

Renewing Our Partnership
Following tradition, AISF will renew our partnership with parents at our Open School Night on Wednesday
October 5. Families are invited to gather at school at 6:00pm in the multipurpose room. After welcome
and introductions, parents will visit classrooms, meet the teachers, and learn about curriculum. It’s just
the beginning of a year-long connection that will grow into a partnership to support learning.
PREK-1ST Grade
ECC Learning Activities
We like role play, especially when we are running a
Beauty Salon!
We are settling into our ECC space and discovering
some wonderful resources!
We made shape pictures with geoboards.
We tried painting with our fingers, hands, cotton tips, sponges and brushes - a
different method every day.
Grades 2-3
Grades 2&3 welcomes new arrival
This photo is of Miss T's Kiddos making a welcome sign for our new student from Iceland! We were so
excited for Emma Karen to arrive!
And here are some photos of the Kiddos working in centers! They are practicing all sorts of math skills in
fun, interactive ways!
Grades 4-8
Great Bibliophile
This week grades 4 through 8 are beginning our novel studies in English class. Grade 4 are reading "Cricket
in Times Square" and grade 5 are reading "Journey to Jo'Burg". Grade 6 will read the "Heritage Keeper",
grade 7 "Dragonwings" and grade 8 "Monster". Please help reinforce your child's interest in reading by
discussing their class novel with them regularly.
AISF students enjoys new and improved technology in math class.
The projector is now mounted to the ceiling making it easier, and much more convenient to use. This has
enabled the class to more readily share how to find solutions to problems on ixl.com.
A document camera has also been purchased that allows the teacher to project anything the camera is
pointed at. Being able to project a protractor onto a large white board has made understanding the
measurement of angles much easier.
