NOURISH YOUR
A HOW TO GUIDE
Welcome to Inner Varnika 2017.
To those of you who have been with us since the beginning; your support is always deeply
appreciated. To those here for the first time; thanks for joining us on the search for that special
environment where we can listen, dance and freely express ourselves to considered music. We
hope you can all join us in thanking the Corangamite Shire community for welcoming us again this
year.
Inner Varnika hopes to re-imagine what a festival can be. We hope you find it unique, if not
unconventional. We hope you find it free-spirited, and foremost, dedicated to that heart-warming
thump.
This how-to guide takes you through journey from start to finish.
Please read it carefully.
Much love and respect from the Inner Varnika team.
Inner Varnika acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land on which we are meeting.
We pay our respects to their Elders, past and present, and the Elders from other communities who may be here today.

HOW TO: GET THERE
Inner Varnika is located near Bookaar in Western
Victoria, around two hours from Melbourne.
Car-pooling is recommended.
Please drive responsibly and look after your
mates. It is a public holiday weekend so allow for
extra time on the roads.
For any last minute supplies you can
stop off in Camperdown and support
the local community.
Festival entry is clearly marked along Darlington
Road, please follow signs carefully.
4
HOW TO: GET IN
Gates open to the public at 12pm on Friday, 14th of
April. Music commences at 3pm.
To ensure entry to the event you will need:
•
Your ticket. Download it onto a smart phone or similar, with the barcode clearly visible for scanning (save paper!). If that’s not possible, a
printed ticket is fine.
•
Your ID. This is an 18+ event and there will be no entry without ID.
•
A valid car pass - car passes are $10 online, and will be $25 on the
gate. $5 of this is refundable when you return a full bag of rubbish at
the end of the festival.
•
A $50 deposit if you are bringing a couch or large item.
•
Cars will be searched for banned items.
•
Please be patient as we work through entry procedures.
•
No tickets sold on gate.
•
Management retains the right to refuse entry at all times.
GATE TIMES/PASSOUTS
Once on site we strongly encourage all patrons to stay. There
shouldn’t be a need to leave unless in case of emergency. However
passouts are permitted.
Gates are closed from 1am-8am Saturday and Sunday. Whilst
these gates will be manned by security at all hours, you
will not be able to enter the festival via your vehicle during
these times.
Please make sure you arrive before or after these times.
Festival entry is clearly marked along Darlington Road, please follow signs carefully.
5
HOW TO: NOT GET IN
AKA TRESSPASSING:
We have an incredibly strict no-tolerance policy for anyone trying to gain entry into the festival (or assisting anyone attempting to sneak into the festival) without a valid ticket, by foot, by vehicle or by any
other means.
These acts constitute trespassing and will mean that once caught, you will be ejected and also charged. This means you could be looking at a fine of
$2,750 or six months jail. Not only will you be ejected and charged, but you will also be banned from the festival for life.
If a vehicle is found to be carrying or assisting even one trespasser, all occupants of the vehicle will be refused entry and similarly banned.
We have been working incredibly close with Victoria Police, our security team and the local community to ensure that the event is as secure and safe as
possible. A tow zone will be in effect on all surrounding roads, regular perimeter searches will be undertaken by our security team and if any person is
found inside the festival without a valid ticket or wristband, they will face a criminal conviction, substantial fines and a life ban.
It’s unfortunate that we have to speak about this, but we will go to great lengths to protect the neighbouring properties, safeguard the intimate spirit of
Inner Varnika and ensure that the vibe is right. Please do not attempt to jeopardise this by entering the festival without a ticket.
6
HOW TO: CAMP LIKE A PRO
•
As in previous years, there will be a separate area for parking and for camping – but don’t fret, the distance between the two areas is no more than 100 metres.
•
For a small donation, a local community group will be offering a service to help you move your heavy items from your
car to the campsite.
•
Please respect the local community at all times! They have kindly allowed us into their neighbourhood so please
respect them, their town and this privilege.
•
COUCH DEPOSITS:
Motor vehicles are not allowed in the camping area and similarly no camping will be permitted in the car parking
area, however if you have a camper van there is an area for these. Please alert traffic staff if you would like to sleep in
your vehicle.
•
Stay inside camping markers, these will be clearly marked. Do not block any emergency laneways.
•
Please be considerate of your neighbours. After the music finishes each night, the campsite is a quiet area, please
respect that.
•
There will be no natural shade in the campground, so be sure to consider this in advance.
•
The reserving of space is prohibited. All campsites are more or less exactly the same. No one will have a better or
If you want to bring a couch or other large
item requiring a trailer, you will need to register it at the gate with a $50 deposit.

worse campsite than someone else, so please, if you want to camp with your mates, enter the festival with them.
•
Please use the rubbish and recycling bags provided.
•
Please bring durable camping equipment or borrow some if you don’t have any. And take it home with you to use
again!!

HOW TO: LOOK AFTER YOURSELF AND YOUR MATES
Inner Varnika is proud of the supportive and friendly community that gathers every year.
The people who attend Inner Varnika are open and respectful, and always look out for people that may need a hand.
It is important that this vibe continues, so if you see someone in trouble - friend or yet-to-be-friend – please alert
someone. People you can turn to include:
• Party Patrol, There will be roaming staff on site who are there to make
sure you’re having a good time. They will be highly visible, so please make
use of them!
• Info tent, A port of call for any questions or concerns you have, no matter
the urgency.
• Emergency services, Particularly the fully equipped first aid team who
will be on site at all times.
• Any staff member wearing a lanyard.
• Your neighbour, because we’re all generally pretty good eggs.
• Dancewize, who will be available near the info tent around the clock.
Please follow signage and directions of festival staff at all times. And please be familiar with the site map, which is
on the next page.
Our Party Patrollers will be roaming 24/7 for all your friendship
and safety needs.
8
HOW TO: BE A CONSCIOUS PARTY PERSON
Inner Varnika prides itself on being a place for absolute freedom of expression whilst
also completely free from discrimination. We strive to create a safe and inclusive
environment for everybody involved.
This includes an absolute zero tolerance approach to any form of sexual harassment - whether that be
lewd comments or unwanted touching - as well as physical or verbal discrimination on the grounds of
race, gender, religion, sexuality, ability or anything else for that matter.
Any such behaviour that causes other patrons to feel unsafe is utterly unacceptable and inexcusable.
If you are ever made to feel unsafe by another patron’s behaviour
or if you witness unacceptable behaviour, remember that staff and security are there to support and
intervene if necessary. So please speak to someone in charge and we will resolve the issue as a matter of priority.
Express yourselves, dance your hearts out and treat all people with love
and respect.

HOW TO: EAT AND DRINK GOOD
FOOD
DRINKS
There will be a wide range of delicious food options available
to purchase at the festival, including vegetarian, vegan and
gluten free.
There will be a bar serving beer, cider and a selection of
mixed drinks, soft drinks and water
at very affordable prices from 2pm onwards and will continue to operate throughout the festival.
Stalls will be open most of the time.
Local community groups will be providing ice and other supplies on site.
Please do not bring anything into the festival that is in a glass bottle or
container.
We will be confiscating all glass found at the festival. We recommend
bringing a small amount of largely non-perishable items from home,
though any kind of gas-powered cooker is not permitted.
Please also be mindful of additional packaging waste/rubbish and
leave all of this at home! Packing your esky before you leave is a great way
of achieving this.
Bar operating hours:
• Friday 4pm-1am
• Saturday 11am-1am
• Sunday 11am-12am
In accordance with Local Council, Police and our Liquor Licensing
restrictions, Inner Varnika will be a limited BYO alcohol event.
Upon entry, security personnel and gate staff will be checking each
and every car entering and any alcohol found in excess of one slab of
cans per car will be confiscated.
12
HOW TO: BE SAFE
INNER VARNIKA IS A COMPLETELY FIRE FREE ZONE!
No candles, no fire-twirlers, no gas cookers, no naked flames. The festival’s location is in one of the most fire prone areas of Victoria.
We have invested in some of the states best-qualified fire services to protect our little festival in the event of a fire.
The Corangamite Shire is amidst one of its driest years in decades.
We will be employing an extremely strict no-tolerance policy with anyone found to be acting stupid with fire, which will entail not only the immediate ejection from the grounds, but possibly police intervention. This is unfortunately a very serious matter.
PLEASE REMEMBER
We are working closely with emergency services to ensure you stay safe at Inner Varnika, though it is a two-way street.
A fully equipped first aid team will be on site at all times, though always remember to be responsible for yourself and those around you, even the people you don’t know.
If you see someone in trouble please help them or bring it to the attention of festival staff.
Please refer to the site map to make yourself familiar with the layout of the festival and where Emergency personnel are located.
Also be sure to keep an eye out for the well- fairies who will be floating about helping festival goers enjoy their experience!
A speed limit of 5km is enforced on all festival roads.
As mentioned, no glass, no fire - this includes candles, gas cookers and naked flames.
Follow signage and directions of festival staff at all times.
13
HOW TO: LEAVE NO TRACE
Other things you can do to really help us leave our treasured site as we found it:
First and foremost: Inner Varnika is a litter-free zone.
Large garbage bags will be handed out to each car on entry, so please
make sure you keep your campsite as clean as possible.
We are ramping up a number of clean, green initiatives this year. They
go like this:
•
There will be heaps of places to dispose of your ciggie butts – please don’t throw
them on the ground. Bring your own ciggie receptacle, grab a free one from the Info
Tent, or buy one from the bar.
CAMPER-CENTRIC RECYCLING:
•
At the gate this year you will be given a big recycling bag. One per
car. On Monday between 8am and 12pm, you will be able to bring your
Crush your cans before putting them in recycling. This reduces volume, which
means we can increase our recycling capacity and send less to landfill!
•
Recycling bins have easy-to-read information on them. Please make sure that all
food scraps are emptied before placing recycling in the yellow bins, so that con-
bag full of recycling to our recycling depot to get your $5 back.
tamination doesn’t hinder the process – we cannot stress how important this is!
CARBON OFFSETTING:
$5 from each vehicle car pass will be donated to local environmental
carbon off-setting program, which will see an immediate impact in
the local area from the carbon produced by each vehicle.
•
You will also see red bins around the site. If you are in doubt of what is recyclable,
then just put it in a red bin.
•
Be conscious of what you bring to the event – leave extra packaging at home.
•
Please avoid bringing plastic confetti and glitter, they are both incredibly hard to
clean up. Polystyrene, styrofoam cups and plastic bags cannot be recycled!
14
HOW TO: EXIT GRACEFULLY
The festival ends at 11pm on Sunday April 16. All patrons are required
to have vacated the property by midday Monday 17th of April.
•
Before exiting it’s important to:
ARE YOU OK TO DRIVE?
Collect your recycling deposit and feel good that you’ve done
Blow Me First and Vanessa Bus will be on site from Sunday afternoon from 10am til 6pm, and Monday 7am-1pm for free breathtesting. Blow Me First will have swab tests available for purchase.
your bit in limiting your impact on the environment.
•
Visit the lost and found. If you’ve lost yourself over the weekend,
maybe it’s been handed in at the Info Tent, which will be open
until midnight on Sunday and reopen at 7am on Monday.
•
Take your things with you! Please remember that whatever you
bring in is your responsibility to take out. That includes camping
equipment.
•
Visit Camperdown for some comfort food before the drive home.
•
Please drive safely! We want to see your smiling face next year.
We shouldn’t have to tell you not to drink or take drugs and drive.
Victoria police may be conducting drug and alcohol tests within
close proximity to the festival. It is advised that all designated
drivers are mindful of their activities in the lead-up to the journey
home.
Inner Varnika strongly encourages patrons to not leave late Sunday
night. Everyone is welcome to stay on site Sunday night to lower
their BAC and to also get some much needed rest.
