pursue his medical studies.
• Consultant radiologist in Durban and later
Stoke Mandeville and developed service at
Milton Keynes.
• Joint problems in later life.

• There are 16 full internationals who emanated from just one hospital,
albeit one of the most famous teaching hospitals in the world - namely St
Mary's Paddington.
• St Mary's can boast no fewer than three England captains - Tuppy OwenSmith, Tommy Kemp and Edward Scott - while another five graduates wore
the red rose with distinction - Nim Hall, Norman Bennett, Lew Cannell,
Trevor Wintle and Kevin Simms. Over in the Welsh camp they produced
the great JPR Williams, Richard Wintle, RN Wade and David Rocyn-Jones,
the latter a former president of the Welsh Rugby Union.
• From Ireland there was Jim Murphy O'Connor - a No8 and possibly the first
player to use the round-the-corner style of goal-kicking at international
level and the brother of Cardinal Cormack Murphy O'Connor, D J Cussen,
and A McGibbon. Finally they also produced a Scotland cap, namely Army
doctor N M Campbell in 1956.
