** ST JUDE’S PTA AGM **
Monday 14th December, 3:45-4:45pm in the school hall.
Everyone welcome to come and hear what we have done over the past year. We need to elect:Chair / Co-Chair x 2
The PTA Chair works with the school, and
with other PTA members to plan the programme
of PTA events throughout the year. The key skill
needed for this role is delegation!
Secretary / Co-secretary x 2
The PTA secretary supports the PTA by keeping a
list of PTA members, circulating emails, and
liaising with the school. For this you need to be
good at managing email traffic!
Treasurer
Whilst all Committee members have equal responsibility
for the control and management of the PTA’s funds,
the Treasurer plays an important role in maintaining up
-to-date records. A good understanding of financial
issues is key although there is no need to be a qualified
accountant!
Committee Members x 3
The ordinary committee members help to steer the
direction of the PTA and get enthusiastically involved in
the organisation of events and activities.
St Jude’s FC just keep on improving… and win our first award!
Our First Team participated in the Fulham Football Club Foundation ‘Kids Cup’ on Friday 27th November at Ferndale
Recreation Centre. The squad was comprised of Sheldan (GK), Jack (c), Lola, Tom A, Joshua W, Noah, Kyal and
Nyamekye.
We were placed in a group of six with Henry Fawcett, Henry Cavendish, Wyvil, St Anne’s and Vauxhall. As opposed to the
previous tournaments we made a very positive and fast-paced start against Henry Fawcett, dominating possession and
dictating the tempo of the game. Unfortunately we did not take our chances in front of goal and we were made to rue
this as their first shot on target, from about 20 yards out, curled into the bottom corner and we lost 1-0.
It was a difficult result to take but we picked ourselves up and went straight back into action against Henry Cavendish.
We enjoyed domination in this game too but once again our finishing let us down and we had to settle for a 0-0 draw.
Jack was leading by example at the back and Noah was starting to find time on the ball to use his vision for a pass well.
Sheldan made a wonderful save at the feet of their striker, bravely sliding in to kick the ball away to safety.
Our best performance was to come against Wyvil who had won their first two games comfortably. Joshua and Kyal flew
out of the traps and were hustling and challenging for every ball brilliantly. We broke down the right wing and Kyal
showed great maturity for one so young, taking on the defender then placing the ball in the far corner, in off the post!
Wyvil came back strongly and we began to tire, unfortunately leading to an easy chance for their striker in the closing
stages which Sheldan had no chance of stopping. 1-1 against a top team was a very impressive result.
Vauxhall were up next, a team who had won all of their matches thus far. We again made an outstanding start and Tom
A found Kyal down the right hand side with a lovely pass. In a repeat of his previous effort, Kyal sprinted past the
defender and slammed the ball home from 10 yards. We were on top at this point but it seemed that our exertions had
left us a little tired and we weren’t quite as strong in the closing stages, losing 2-1.
We received a bit of a footballing lesson in our next game against St Anne’s, losing 5-0. Lola stood out for some physical
and brave defensive challenges and Nyamekye looked dangerous up front, giving the defence a tough time whenever he
was on the ball with trickery and pace. Our young and developing team are steadily improving the levels of stamina and
concentration required to compete with the experience and talent of the other Lambeth schools but the signs are very
promising indeed.
We then challenged Henry Cavendish to a friendly in order to try and finish the tournament on a high note. Our players
seemed more relaxed in front of goal and we were worthy winners, 3-2. Joshua W and Kyal linked up very well in attack
and look a good partnership for the future. There was a ‘Crossbar Challenge’ competition where we all had a chance to
aim for the crossbar from the halfway line. Jack was one of only 5 players on the day to manage this feat, winning himself
a wonderful medal at the end.
St Jude’s FC won their first official award this season when were given the ‘Sportsmanship Award’ by all the coaches and
referees at the tournament. We were chosen due to the fact that we played football in the right way, with integrity and
determination. We stood out amongst all the schools for never giving up and showing honesty and dedication in equal
measure. The children all won special wristbands from Fulham FC which I am sure they will treasure. Thank you to
Dwayne Watt for his dedication on the cold and windy Thursday evenings, and his fantastic support on tournament days.
The future looks bright…
Player of the Tournament: Kyal (Year 4) - two goals and plenty of skill on the right wing. Fantastic performance!
