Great Neck-based Jobco Realty and Construction officially broke ground Thursday on the first building of its $50
million Glen Cove Piazza mixed-use development.
Jobco has begun construction on a 4,500-square-foot, free-standing Panera Bread restaurant at the downtown Glen
Cove site, at the intersection of Glen and School streets. It will soon be joined by 110 rental apartments over 25,000
square feet of retail space surrounding a sizeable public square.
Jobco President Michael Puntillo said the company expects to break ground on the rest of the project in September,
and it should be completed within two years. The Piazza at Glen Cove development was recently honored by Vision
Long Island for “creating a sense of place.”

“We’re thrilled to announce that we’ve broken ground on the first phase of this exciting, smart-growth, downtown
development,” Puntillo said. “It will help revitalize downtown Glen Cove.”
The piazza development will create 200 construction jobs and 50 permanent jobs, Puntillo said.
The piazza is a forerunner to the city’s long awaited $1 billion redevelopment along Glen Cove Creek called Garvies
Point, the first phase of which will bring 488 rental apartments to the city’s waterfront. RXR Realty CEO Scott
Rechler, one of the mega-project’s development partners, said Wednesday that construction on the first phase at 53acre Garvies Point will begin before the end of the year. A phase two will follow and add about 500 for-sale
residences, a hotel, restaurants and other retail space.
Glen Cove Mayor Reginald Spinello said the groundbreaking of the Panera is an important first step in the city’s
overall revitalization.
“It’s a great day for Glen Cove,” Spinello said. “We’ve been looking forward to this for a while.”
