ENTER European Master in Economic Research
The European Network for Training in Economic Research (ENTER) is a cooperative venture between
eight leading European Economics Departments, located in Barcelona (Spain), Brussels (Belgium),
London (United Kingdom), Madrid (Spain), Mannheim (Germany), Stockholm (Sweden), Tilburg (the
Netherlands) and Toulouse (France).
Within this network five universities agreed on cooperation for a joint master’s program:
Université Libre de Bruxelles
Stockholms Universitet
Universidad Carlos III de Madrid
Université Toulouse 1
Universität Mannheim
General Information
Participants in the ENTER Master Program will spend their first year at their home university (i.e. the
University of Mannheim) while the second year will be completed at one of our partner universities
(“host university”).
During their first year in Mannheim they follow the master’s curriculum here. They need to earn a
minimum of 60 ECTS, otherwise they will not be eligible for the program.
In their second year they follow the master’s curriculum at the host university and write their master’s
thesis there. Registration and supervision of the master’s thesis takes place at the host university.
However, it is possible to have a second supervisor from Mannheim.
After fulfilling all requirements from the joint master’s program, students will be awarded degrees from
both universities.

Selection
A first selection is based on the application documents and done by Prof. Peitz. We will then nominate
the selected students at our partner universities and wait for their decision. Applicants will be contacted
as soon as a decision is made.
Administrative Issues
During their stay at the partner university, ENTER participants still have to re-register in Mannheim (i.e.
tuition fees still have to be paid to the University of Mannheim). However, students do not have to reregister in the 5th semester if the only thing missing to complete their studies is the submission (and
presentation) of their master’s thesis.
Before leaving Mannheim a Learning Agreement has to be signed (please submit your Learning
Agreement to Rima Ashour). After completing their studies at the partner university an experience
report has to be filed to the International Office.
Scholarship
In case the student has not received any ERASMUS funding previously (i.e. during their bachelor’s
program) they will receive an ERASMUS funding during their stay at the partner university. For
additional information about the ERASMUS scholarship please contact the International Office. For
information about other available scholarships, please visit: http://www.unimannheim.de/ionas/n/uni/akademisches_auslandsamt/english/outgoing_students/funding/index.html
Procedure at the Host University
During the second master’s year all, students are subject to the curriculum and all program regulations
of their host university. The program regulations of the master’s program in Mannheim do not apply.
Graduation
After fulfilling the program requirements of the first year in Mannheim and the second year at the host
university, students receive a master’s diploma from both universities.
To receive your diploma from the University of Mannheim please do the following:
As soon as you have finished all your courses and the master’s thesis at the host university, you
should be receiving a transcript of records and a diploma from your host university. Sometimes

the host universities also directly send us your transcript but this is not always the case.
It is very important that the transcript/diploma contains the following information:
o Name, ECTS and grade for each course you have taken
o Title, ECTS, grade and name of supervisor of your master’s thesis
With the transcript/diploma you have to request the recognition of your credits received at the
host institution by the University of Mannheim. This request should be addressed to the
examination board (Prüfungsausschuss) of the Master in Economics at the University of
Mannheim and should be mailed to Rima Ashour.
Please note that we need to see the original transcript/diploma at one point, so either send the
originals by post or if you send copies (e.g. by e-mail), please make an appointment with Ms.
Ashour to show the originals.
For the recognition of your credits we also need a certification from the International Office that
you have handed in your experience report ("Erfahrungsbericht") about your stay abroad. Please
send this certificate together with your request for recognition.
The recognition of your credits will then be done as follows:
Depending on the no. of credits you have already received in Mannheim in your first year, we
can usually recognize 60-66 ECTS (including master’s thesis) for the second year. Please note
that the minimum sum of credits you need for both years together is 120 ECTS (the maximum is
126 ECTS) to receive your diploma in Mannheim.
Your master’s thesis will be recognized with the ECTS credits given by your host institution. The
rest of your credits will be recognized as elective courses.
Your grades from the host institution will be converted into German grades and you will receive
one average grade for all the elective courses and one grade for your master’s thesis.
We will then notify our Student Service Center (Studienbüro I) about the recognition. As soon as
they have entered all your data you will be able to pick up your diploma and diploma
supplement there. Your diploma will contain the information that you have participated in a
double degree program, naming your host institution, and will refer to the credits received
there.
