st 1 International UCM Predoctoral Conference on English Linguistics (UPCEL): Social, Cognitive and Functional Perspectives Facultad de Filología Universidad Complutense – Madrid The organising committee of the 1st International UCM Predoctoral Conference on English Linguistics (UPCEL) is pleased to invite PhD students in English Linguistics programmes to participate in our first conference, which will be held on September 1719, 2015 at the Facultad de Filología, Universidad Complutense de Madrid. The conference aims to serve as a forum for sharing and discussing topics related to English linguistics. This conference targets PhD candidates beyond their first year of research adopting social, cognitive and functional perspectives in their investigation. CONFIRMED PLENARY SPEAKERS ● Dr. Jesús Romero Trillo (Universidad Autónoma de Madrid) ● Dr. Victor Pavón Vázquez (Universidad de Córdoba) ● Dr. Javier E. DíazVera (Universidad de CastillaLa Mancha) Researchers interested in taking part in this conference are encouraged to submit their proposal on the following topics: ● Bilingualism/CLIL ● ● (Critical) Discourse Analysis ● ● Cognitive Linguistics ● ● Functional Linguistics ● Translation and Contrastive Linguistics ● Sociolinguistics ● ● Pragmatics Applied Linguistics Historical Linguistics Corpus and Computational Linguistics Lexicography/Phraseology ABSTRACT SUBMISSION We invite researchers to submit their proposals in one of the following formats: ● Paper presentations : papers will be presented in 20minute slots, followed by tenminute discussion turns. ● Posters : posters will be at display in key areas at the conference venue. ★ Please note that English is the language we will be using all throughout the conference All abstracts must be submitted online before May 3, 2015 via the conference website: Submit for UPCEL 2015 . Abstracts should adhere to the following format instructions: ● Title of proposal in bold ● Indication of whether submitted for paper or poster presentation ● Presenter’s full name ● Name and address of institution, telephone and email ● 500 words max. (incl. references) ● 12 pt font, justified, singlespaced ASSESSMENT OF PROPOSALS The contributions will not be formally evaluated as is usual in regular scientific conferences, precisely because we want to provide a forum for ongoing work. However, since we would like to focus on PhD students beyond their initial year, the contributions will be screened by the organizing committee. The abstracts should therefore clearly indicate the research question addressed by the investigation, the methods and materials used, and the state of completion of the research (including for instance provisional results).
