1. AA Tier and Registration Information
∙
∙
If your school’s gr. 11 & 12 female population adds up to 81-225, you are a ‘AA’ school.
You can ‘move up’ and play AAA. Teams must declare in their league or notify the
BCSSGBA Commissioner, in writing prior to November 30.
All teams / schools must be registered with BC School Sports (BCSS) prior to required BCSS
deadlines. (see BCSS handbook / online at www.bcschoolsports.com)
All your team players must meet BCSS eligibility requirements.
Jr. team players are limited to 4 playing days at the Sr. level (or just 2 league days) if you
want your Jr.’s to be eligible for Jr. BC Championships. Otherwise, there are nolonger any
limits on Jr.’s playing days up at Sr.
Jr.’s can be added to Sr. rosters upon completion of Jr. season. Must complete BCSS form to
do so: http://www.bcschoolsports.ca/pages/forms.php

Wildcards 2 wildcard berths are allocated by the BCSSGBA in Feb. based on zone strength.
*Note: .5 berth means a playoff game with another zone who has a .5 berth.
3. Zone Representatives
∙
∙
∙
1 Rep from each zone will be involved in many important decisions during the year.
Zone reps oversee the Zone Championship Tourn. In their zone. Each zone elects their own
Zone Rep. This should be done at a coaches meeting at the zone tournament.
Please communicate with your Zone Rep. Report scores & provide them with information so
that they can best represent you & your zone in BCSSGBA conference call meetings.
∙
Two important BCSSGBA conference call meetings occur #1-early Feb. when the wildcard
berths are allocated and #2-late Feb. after the zone tournaments finish when the AA BC
tournament draw is created. Information from Zone Reps on those calls is very important.
4. Berths to the AA BC’s.
∙
The berths allocated to each zone are listed on the previous page and reflect number of
teams in each zone and the zone strength. There is also 1 host berth that goes to the Fraser
Valley region. Langley (LEC) is the BC championship tournament host in 2014.
∙
Wildcard Berths (2):
∙
∙
There are 2 wildcard berths allocated to zones based on strength by the BCSSGBA Exec.
How? Based on information I receive & information provided by zone reps on the
conference call, the BCSSGBA Exec. Will vote to allocate wildcard berths to deserving
zones.
Playoff games are often held to determine the final teams to qualify for the BC’s. These
games will be held at neutral gyms on the Monday following zone tournaments. (Feb. 25, 2013)
∙
5. AA BC Championships
∙
16 teams qualify. The tournament is seeded 1-16. Seeding occurs on a conference call in
late February & involves input from all zone reps. A proposal is made, discussed & the
BCSSGBA will vote on the final proposal(s).
AA BC tournament information is available online. Check www.bcssgba.ca
AA coaches AGM is held during the BC’s. This meeting is the forum to change current
BCSSGBA ‘AA’ policies and elect a new AA BCSSGBA Rep. The BCSSGBA AGM takes
place at the AAA BC’s in Langley during the AAA tournament.
AA teams must get rosters & team photos to AA BC tournament organizers on time.

6. Rankings & other information
∙
∙
∙
∙
∙
∙
AA girls rankings are compiled and updated throughout the season. - not every week.
There is a top 10 list and a group of 5 Honourable Mention teams. The HM’s are not always
ranked 11-15 but can be grouped together as the next teams just outside of the top 10.
All zones are considered when compiling the rankings.
Zone reps and coaches are encouraged to send information. Accuracy of the rankings is best
when honest, quality information is provided. Please email me your scores and any other
information you have. Do not wait until the end of the season to send it all in.
Pollster: Paul Chiarenza at Southridge. Email: [email protected]
My best advice for coaches who believe they should be ranked or ranked higher is... a). email
your results (wins & loses) especially against top teams. b). plan ahead and prepare a good
schedule to play some top ranked teams. c). Do realize that games in Jan. & Feb. are far
more important than games in December for rankings, wildcards and seeding consideration.
d). Travel & cross zones to play top teams in other zones at least once in the season - later in
the season is better.
Good luck. Thank you for your involvement girl’s basketball. David Prissinotti (BCSSGBA ‘AA’ Rep)
