Pancreatic Tumor Surgery in IIMCT-Pakistan Railway General Hospital
Rawalpindi
IIMCT Pakistan Railway General Hospital
Rawalpindi marked history by performing
pancreatic surgery.
The patient belonging to Wah City had
Insulinoma (benign endocrine tumor of
pancreatic gland) diagnosed 3 years back.
The patient remained under treatment in
CMH, Polyclinic, BBH, and was ultimately
refused for treatment.
Since the patient had survived many
hypoglycemic attacks and was literally on
sugar syrup taken every hour even during
night, he gained weight from 73 kg to
140 kg. It was miserable that he could not
sleep properly and his life had almost been
crippled. His monthly sugar consumption
alone was 35 Kg.
Zahid. With Allah’s blessings the patient is
doing well and recovering at pace now.
Dr. Asheen Zafar Professor of surgery said
that the patient was referred to us by one of
our previous patients who had a pancreatic
surgery in our hospital a few years back.
Although patient was high risk case due to
the nature of surgery and his obesity but
with anesthetists’ cooperation we assessed
him and found him fit to go ahead for
the definitive treatment. His surgery was
planned and performed in our hospital for
which we gathered resources from outside
(ligasure machine and staplers) as well with
the help and collaboration of Prof. M. A.
We must appreciate all of our house
officers, PGs and lower staff who worked
hard for pre-operative preparation and
post-operative care of the patient especially
keeping in mind that for surgery he was
put on nil per oral and our PGs checked
his glucose hourly and injected him 8
ampoules of 25% glucose throughout
the night due to repeated hypoglycemia
development despite a 10% D/W drip
being given. It is a huge effort on their part
and deserves appreciation.

Workshop on “Emotional Intelligence & Coaching Skills for Leaders”
HELD at AL Mizan Campus
With a focus on Quality Education through Inculcation of Islamic
ethical values in our young generation, Riphah International
University has always looked forward towards the development of
its faculty and management. In this regard Riphah HR Department
organized one day workshop on “Emotional Intelligence &
Coaching Skills for Leaders” with Coloration of Max Strategy &
Knowledge Now at Al- Mizan Campus on 20th December, 2016.
Mr. Andy Smith, Training & Coaching Director of Coaching Leaders
Limited conducted the workshop. Top management & faculty
heads attended the workshop.
Emotional intelligence (EI) or emotional quotient (EQ) is the
capability of individuals to recognize their own, and other people’s
emotions, to discriminate between different feelings and label
them appropriately, to use emotional information to guide thinking
and behavior, and to manage and/or adjust emotions to adapt
environments or achieve one’s goal. People with high EI have greater
mental health, job performance, and leadership skills although no
causal relationships have been shown and such findings are likely to
be attributable to general intelligence and specific personality traits
rather than emotional intelligence as a construct.
On this occasion Manager HR Department, Mr. Rehan Hameed
said that workshop was informative and worthwhile. Our primary
goal was to increase the understanding regarding emotional
Intelligence and informal team dynamics within institutional
leadership. Being a receptive group, enthusiasm and positivity,
we certainly materialized both productivity and fun. He thanked
participants for valuable comments and suggestions on the
evaluation forms.
