Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP) Virtual Institute November 4, 2010 to December 2, 2010 Or December 1, 2010 to December 22, 2010 Title III funding is available for the first 20 participants who want to take the Pearson Publishing Company’s Virtual Institute. Complete the attached application form for a mini-grant of $450 that will be paid upon completion of the course. Pearson Publishing is offering a professional development opportunity for ESL and classroom teachers to learn more about Sheltered Instruction using the SIOP model. The institute that Title III funds will support participation in is the SIOP for Teachers Virtual Institute on Nov 4- Dec 2, 2010 or the session for Dec 1- Dec. 22, 2010. Click on View Details to learn more about the institutes. Title III will award a $450 mini-grants for participation in this virtual institute to the first 20 people who apply and are approved. If you or your colleagues would like to participate in this professional development opportunity, please complete the application form attached to this email and return it to Pat Latham by October 8, 2010. You will be notified in writing by way of email if you have received one of the grants. Once your application is approved you will need to personally register online for the virtual institute through the Pearson site, pay for the institute yourself, complete the assignments, and attend each of the 11 sessions. (Four sessions are an hour long with a live presenter; the other seven sessions are approximately 45 minutes in length with a variety of formats.) At the conclusion of the institute you will receive a Certificate of Completion from Pearson. Send a photocopy of your Certificate of Completion to Pat Latham along with the grant claim form. Once all claim forms are received, they will be taken to the Board for approval. A check will be issued in the amount of $450 to you and sent to your home address. (Claim forms will accompany your grant approval notification.) You may want to consider forming a study team around this activity and submitting a professional development course proposal (study team) for license renewal or graduate credit. Please talk to your district administrators for their guidance on forming study teams in your building/district. This is an excellent opportunity to learn more about the SIOP model.
