Which means that they have developed over many generations. DESERT FOX ARCTIC FOX THE ARCTIC The Polar Bear Why are polar bears white? It helps them blend in with the snow and ice. How does a polar bear keep warm? It has a layer of fat under it’s skin that helps it stay warm. Why does a polar bear have large, wide paws? They help a polar bear walk in the snow. They also huddle together with their friends to keep warm. THE DESERT The Camel - Long eyelashes keep the sand out of it’s eyes. - It’s big eyebrows shield the eyes from the desert sun. - It’s nostrils close so no sand can get in. - It can go a week or more without water, and can drink up to 46 litres in one session. They store fat (not water) in their humps for energy. Camels feet are wide so they can walk on the sand more easily. Camels ears are covered with hair so that the sand or dust doesn’t blow into the animals ears.
