Principal’s Report
Colleen:
- Food Drive held in October – talked about stats of how many families use Food
Bank with students
- Lots of donations by the school community going to Salvation Army. Already sent
2 car loads of donations over and will be sending more as donations are still coming
in.
- Last year, Council allotted money to be used to purchase more equipment like balls
– school has purchased and the students are enjoying these equipment
- Guest speaker Anthony MacLean came to speak to all the students about Bullying –
presentations were divided by primary, intermediate, junior grades and each
presentation was geared towards each grade. Anthony shared personal stories to
the junior grades
- He will be here to speak to parents next Tuesday, November 10th 7-8:30
Krista:
- The school celebrated Halloween by having a parade for the students and parents
were able to attend and watch the parade. About 32 students did not want to
participate in the parade and they sat in the office with the librarian.
Staff dressed up to join in the celebrations. Krista was Captain Hook, Colleen was
Peter Pan and Dennis was Tinkerbell.
- Next event: Remembrance Day Assembly on November 11, 2015. The Grade 7
students will be hosting the assembly
- Teachers have also offered their classes to participate in the assembly by doing
things like singing or reading poems.
- The students are very respectful and when it is time for the Minutes of Silence, the
entire gym is silent.
- Board is hosting Calling All Three Year Olds for families who will be having a JK
student enrolled in Sept. 2016.
- This open house will be held at TJS on Thursday, November, 12, 2015 6:30-7:30
Open to all schools, not just TJS families
- Families will have a chance to learn about FDK Program and can visit a FDK
classroom - hands on and information night
- Snack Program: Tracey Tucker is running program along side with Chantelle
McDonald & Erika Fellner-Stagg
- Spending $1300 on snack program. The food bins are empty by end of the week,
which shows there is a need for the program
- Snack Program will now offer dairy – yogurt, cheese to provide more protein. A
mini fridge has purchased to be placed in the office where the dairy products will be
stored. If students want dairy products, they will go down to office to request the
items
- Staff have noticed that kids have food for first break but not enough for food for the
second break.
- School will accept food donations that are on the approved snack program list and
cash donations.
- CUPE has come to an agreement and ETFO teachers. Still unsure of what it means
- The board has sent out a notice advising families that at this point, progress
reports are still on hold
- Extracurricular are back in motion. Teachers have contacted admin eager to start
clubs such as Volleyball.
- Hallways will be swept again by janitorial staff
- Support staff such as the secretaries do not have a deal yet.

Movie Night Update
- 64 in attendance which end up being a nice small group
- What is meant to be a community builder ends up bringing in a profit of $161.17
- Next movie night will be, Dec. 11, 2015 and the movie showing will be Shaun the
Sheep
- In the new year – hoping to show the new Peanuts movie
- The cost of the movie license is $1000 a year and We make $1000-2000 a year
after all expenses are paid
- We will renew the movie license – motioned by Derek, seconed by Charity
Spirit Wear Sale
- Happening this Week (Nov. 4 & 5) Wed/Thurs. from 4pm-6pm
- Need volunteers to help sales. Payment: can be through cashless, cheque and cash
- If we sell out we can order more and it takes about 2-3 weeks to get from Jimmy’s
- Tshirts $10 Sweatshirts $20
Fundraising Goals
- In the past we have set goals such as Playstructure, Math Manipulatives, Literacy,
Technology
-Do we want to spread around, or use it towards a big ticket item?
Suggestion for School Sign, Water Fountain for Drink Bottles, Technology (as it gets
outdated)
- To date we have purchased: Intermediate: 10 chrome books, Jr: 5 chrome books,
Primary: 3 iPads per class, Kindie: 1 iPad per class, Library: 20 chrome books, Data
Projector, Document cameras
- Landscaping/Greening for the back of the school
- Literacy: French Immersion: building classroom Library as well for English
- Question about having a covered pathway from school to portables
Talk about class sizes in portables to explain why certain classes are in portables.
We will be getting more portables in future.
School Wish List
- Raz kids account for kindies $1000
- $2000 for gardening that has been cared for at the front of the school
- 3 data projectors for kindies with ipad dongle and a cart (600 plus tax each);
Considered – apple tv. Best to use the same model we have in place
- Proposal to spend $5500 :
- Motion for $1000 Raz Kids by Sarah, 2nd byCharity
- Motion for $2500 for data projector, iPad dongle, cart by Charity, 2nd by

- Motion for $2000 for gardening by Harpreet, 2nd by Sarah
- Question about Dream Box: used by grade 3 and 4, and some blended classes
- math program that students use and teachers can go on to see how each
individual students are doing. It times kids as well on how fast they get the
answer
- Don’t have tech to support the program. Kids are currently using at centre.
Looking to build our class tech support this year
- Board receives a Subsidized amount of $8 a student to use the program
