Dear Readers
Welcome to the second newsletter of
the new term. The children have
settled well into school routine and
are ready for lots of exciting learning
opportunities over the coming weeks.
School Photographs
On Friday 19th May, photographers
will be in school taking whole class
photographs and leavers’ group
photos. On this day, please ensure
that your children come to school in
correct school uniform with their
school sweatshirt. Thank you.
Staffing Update
At the end of this half term we say
goodbye to Mrs Sheikh, one of our
nursery nurses in the FS Unit. Mrs
Sheikh has been a member of our
highly effective FS team for nearly five
years and we wish her all the best as
she takes up a new post at South
Ascot Primary School.
Sports Day
Sports Day will take place on the
morning of Tuesday 4th July with a
reserve date of Thursday 13th July in
case of inclement weather.
Sun Protection
As the weather gets warmer, children
will need sun protection. A long
lasting sun cream should be applied
before school, as school staff are not
able to apply sunscreen to children.
Children are able to wear sun hats
and sensible sunglasses in warm
weather. Thank you.
Drinking Water
There is access to drinking water for
our children and staff throughout the
whole school to refill water bottles
when required. Please ensure these
water bottles are clearly labelled with
your child’s name and that for
hygiene reasons they are taken home
and washed every day. Thank you.
Online Safety
Parents and carers have a crucial
role in empowering children to stay
safe online. Research has shown that
48% of parents think their child knows
more than them about the internet,
rising to 70% of parents of 12-15s.
Accordingly, CEOP has produced the
‘Parents and Carers Guide to the
Internet’
which
focuses
on
demystifying the online technologies
used by children and providing
families with practical guidance on
how to stay safe online. To learn

New Classes (September 2017)
Now that offers of places for our
September 2017 intake have been
made and we have received our
school budget allocation for the period
April 2017 – March 2018, we are in a
position to start making staffing and
class organisation plans for the next
school year.
As in previous years, parents of
children in current year groups FS2 to
Year 3 inclusive will be notified of
specific class teachers for the next
school year at the beginning of July,
to allow transition activities to take
place before the end of the summer
term. Teachers can still resign their
teaching posts up until 31st May so
this is the earliest time available to
notify parents of staffing plans for the
next school year.
Old Windsor from Saxon Times to
Present Day
A sewing group from the village has
made a textile panel which will hang
in Old Windsor Parish Church from
Thursday 25th May. The poster in our
noticeboard gives details of viewing
times. All visitors are welcome.
The Gap Club Ltd – May Half Term
Holiday Club

which has been planned by the
children, the activities include Birthday
Balloons, Christmas Crackers, Diwali
Delights. There are also lots of

with

Toilets
The Gatehouse toilet is available for
parents and carers to use before the
start of and at the end of the school
day.
Foundation Stage
This week the children in FS1 and
FS2 have been to the Gatehouse
Studio to work with Lisa from the
Tesco Farm to Fork initiative and
have enjoyed making a delicious
berry dessert and then eating it! They
learned about different types of
berries, which they included in their
dessert, as well as developing their
fine motor skills when cutting and
preparing their fruits. They also
learned about the how fruit and
yoghurt contribute to a healthy diet
and their wellbeing.
The FS2s have written about how to
make a berry dessert as well as
writing a thank you to Lisa for coming
and supporting them. I’m sure she will
be delighted with some of their
efforts.
A big thank you to Mrs Wright for
helping to make the contact with
Tesco and Mrs Allan, Mrs Peppiatt
and Mrs Heffer for helping the
children on the day; supporting them
to cut and prepare their fruits and
then clearing away and setting up.
