THE RAF CENTRAL FUND
The RAF Central Fund is a charity dedicated to providing support to enhance the sense of well-being, morale
and community cohesion for those serving in the RAF today and into the future.
Every year we deliver integral support to individuals, units and Sports Associations through our enrichment
and sports grant programmes to enhance their time while serving. Please visit the website www.rafcf.org.uk to
find out more.
As a charity, via our Sport Grant programme, the Fund supports as many serving RAF sportsmen and women as
possible. Each application received is assessed as to how the items or activities noted will help the applicant’s
personal, physical and professional development through their chosen sport. We will endeavor to support the
funding where we can.
GUIDANCE SUPPORT
This unit, section & club grant application form can be used to apply for potential funding support towards group
participation on expeditions/overseas visits and other sporting events.
It is important that the Exped/event is planned in enough time, as retrospective bids will not be considered, so
ensure that all complete applications are sent into us no later than 60 days ahead of the event.
Below is guidance for each section of the application form to ensure it is completed correctly. If your application
is not completed with the correct details or is missing information it can cause serious delay or will be rejected.
SECTION 1 – CONTACT DETAILS FOR ORGANISING OFFICER
Ensure that all details for the organising officer are completed, including a personal MOD email address. Also
ensure that another personal email address is noted too if no access to an MOD account.

SECTION 2 – UNIT/GROUP RAF SPORTS LOTTERY DETAILS
Individuals attending do not need to hold Lottery tickets to apply for funding.
If you wish to apply for enhanced funding you must provide your ticket holding details. Please ensure that all
individuals are part of the new online RAF Sports Lottery, where payments are made via a Direct Debit or Credit
payment (no longer through JPA). You must also ensure that you tick the agreement boxes. These form a
declaration that you hold the stated number of tickets in play at the date of the application and that you will
continue to hold them for a minimum period of at least 26 weeks (before or after the application date, within the
relevant financial year).

SECTION 3 – DETAILS OF EXPEDITION/EVENT/OVERSEAS VISIT
Exped/Event details – provide the name of the exped/event along with the start date and location.
Tell us what the Grant is for - provide a description of the exped/event and a detailed justification of why the RAF
Central Fund, as a charity, should help support each participant’s attendance. How will the funding aid each
participant’s development by completing this exped?
Adventurous Training – Funding to support AT will not be considered unless approval from 22 Trg Gp has been
received and a JSATA provided
Other Expeditions/Overseas Visits will not be considered unless an approved Unit Admin Order is provided and
duty status has been provided by the RAF Sports Directorate.
RAF Sports Association sporting events, OVs or training camps are not eligible for support. Refer to the Sports
Grant Policy for further information.
SECTION 4 – DETAILS OF EVENT PARTICIPANTS
Details of event participation – full details of all who are attending must be noted here (including other service
attendees if applicable). Any changes to the nominal must also be notified as soon as possible.
Enhanced grant awards are tiered according to the number of tickets in play for the RAF Sports Lottery by each
eligible participant, so it is important to state how many they have in play. Participants also need to know that
they must hold the tickets for 26 weeks. Do ensure these tickets are live in the new Sports Lottery.
Minimum 20% personal contribution must be met by each eligible applicant based on the total costs of
participation per person. If this is a Tri-Service exped please refer to the sports grant policy for further information
as this will require a 30% personal contribution.
SECTION 5 – GRANT DETAILS

Breakdown of costs (expenses) – provide full details of costs involved e.g. travel, accommodation other costs etc.
Breakdown of other funding (income) – e.g. unit/station funds, CILOR, other funding or sponsorship etc.
Amount sought as a grant – you must complete this box. The guidelines for available funding are in the Sports
Grant Policy 2017. The Grants Administrator cannot complete this for you.
Bank details - Supply correct bank account details. These need to be a public Unit based account and not a
personal account. We do not issue grants by cheque.
Reference - Please state if you need a reference to show on the transfer e.g. Ex Snowman 17
Any money awarded that is not used for the ‘costs’ outlined in the application, must be returned to the RAF
Central Fund. Please email us for returns details.

SECTION 6 - DECLARATIONS
Applications must be signed by the organising applicant and the approving official - your name with the
annotation ‘Original Signed’ is acceptable when the application is sent electronically from a DII/MODNet e-mail
account in the same name.
Endorsement from Approving Official – needs to be at least 150 words and will need to come from the Unit at
Sqn Ldr level (or above) stating how the funding will enhance the personal, physical and professional
development of every individual attending.
